The Parsis consider the earth, water, and fire, the natural property of God. Thus they see the worship of God in maintaining the environment
Iran, the original homeland of the Parsis. The founder of the Parsi religion, Asho Zarathushta, means 'the owner of a golden camel'. This Zarathushta preaches karma yoga similar to Srimad Bhagavad Gita. God is one, life is bound by karma. This religion believes that it is the virtue of life that comes from the mind, the word, the karma. Their place of worship is 'Agari', the emblem is 'Agni' (Atash), Dharmaguru is 'Mobed', or 'Dastur'; The place for the funeral is the 'Tower of Silence', which is the key 'Dakhma'.
In fact, the Parsis consider the earth, water and fire, the natural property of God. Thus they see the worship of God in maintaining the environment. One hundred percent educated, wholehearted and highly cultured Parsis are populated worldwide as a very small, but very developed, religion. That is why it is okay for them to live, but after death, they have established traditions that do not cause harm to anyone.
The Parsis, who consider the earth, water, and fire sacred, do not want to defile the earth with their bodies. So they do not give the body a fire cremation, they do not perform the cremation. The living being may not work for anybody, but if the body of a dead person can be any food, then it sees the blessed life of the dead.
In a way, the tradition of such a final action of the Parsis is astonishing. But if we look at his spirit and philosophy behind it, we realize how much higher this educated people are living life. The cemetery or cemetery of the Parsis means 'Dakhma' and 'Dakhma' means 'Tower of Silence'.
The 'Tower of Silence' means the well of the dead. A circular deep and tall building was seen. On which to open the corpse. That is, handing the dead to the open sky instead of water, fire or earth. Then slowly the carnivorous birds like vultures will come and crush, eat, and kill the carcasses.
The old Tower of Silence, located in the Malabar Hill area of Mumbai, was named as a postcard portrait in English time. The British Department of Posts has printed a private postcard of the 'Tower of Silence' headquarters in black and white artistic poses. There is a belief that this Parsi cemetery in Mumbai was built in the early 7th century.
We migrated from Iran to Parsi Kom Diw port in India and then to Sanjayn port if the most spread was in Mumbai city. Today more than 5% of the Parsis not only in Gujarat but all over India live in Mumbai. Therefore, it is natural that the parishes, societies and dakhmas of Parsis are the highest in Mumbai. His funeral ritual is called 'Tokh Minashani'.
Today, all four vultures have come into the minority just like the Parsis. Thus, the dead bodies of birds left in the open are not disposed of for many days. This problem has become a headache for Parsis. This has sometimes led to new ideas of burying them, leading to many controversies. Yet the Parsis still upheld their rituals by maintaining this tradition.
