Carbomer is a synthetic polymer. Its overuse has a role as a thickener and suspending agent in the cosmetic industries. Carbomer can be used for low-viscosity dispersion of 0.5% and high-viscosity dispersion (0.5% or more). Which are based on different products.
Carbomer stabilizing emulsion, suspension and cosmetic application can give very good result. Percentage 0.1 and 1.5% for normal use of carbomer can be used according to type of formulation.
Usage:
Carbomers need to be properly dispersed underwater. Dispersion has to do with slow adding. Continuous stringing is required to add carbomer to water. Turbulence agitation as well as air avoidance is required. Failure to do so may result in a bubble in the final product. It becomes difficult to remove. So that a continuous string becomes necessary.
Dehydration with oil can be about 90% concentration free flowing dehydration.
Neutralization: Neutralization requires organic bases like (NAO S, KOS, NS-3OS) or organic amines like (TEA, AMP, AMPD).
Carbomer Neutralizes i.e. (PS-3) requires (e.g.: 0.5 gm of NAOS, 0.5 gm of AMP, and 1.5 gm of TEA).
It is necessary to use the neutralizing agent by further diluting it in water. Which should not be more than ten per cent solution. Using more neutralizing agents than shown above can lead to loss of viscosity.
U V Rise: U V Rise may cause viscosity loss. For this it is necessary to use water soluble UV - airsobs. It is necessary to use UV as adsorbents (benzo-phenon-2). It can prevent the polymer from degrading.
