Washington,
In the last one month, hundreds of children have died in government hospitals in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The UNICEF report, which claims to provide nutrition to newborn babies and mothers in India, says that 1.5 lakh children die in India every year from 5 to 6 years. Nigeria has 1.2 lakh deaths while Pakistan has 1.5 lakh children. One thousand children died in Nigeria, while 1 child died in Pakistan. The child mortality is higher than India but the highest number of child deaths are reported in India. Every 1 second a child is killed. Up to 6 children are consumed in one day. On average, 1 child is killed per 4 children.
Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal are better than India in terms of child motility. However, the relief is that in India, the prevalence of child maltreatment has decreased by 5% from 1 to 2, but the number of poor child health is higher than that of other countries. More than 100 million children in India suffer from malnutrition. Children are also victims of obesity due to lack of balanced diet and child care. Countries like Singapore, Bahrain, Denmark and New Zealand have the lowest child mortality rates. 1 out of every 2 children does not celebrate their birth month.
Madhya Pradesh has the highest infant mortality rate in India. Madhya Pradesh has killed 4 thousand children per 1000. In Assam, 3 deaths were reported in Arunachal Pradesh and 3 in Uttar Pradesh. In Rajasthan, 8 children are killed during treatment. Surprisingly, child maltreatment is very low in states like Nagaland, Sikkim and Podicherry. Only 3 children per thousand die in Kerala and Goa. The Government of India has a target of spending Rs 3,000 crore under nutrition campaign but only if the beneficiaries get access to the millions of people living in the remote areas, the child mortality rate can be reduced.
