There are many elements in the form of minerals on earth. Carbon is very important in it. Carbon is not a metal but diamonds are harder than metal. Coal is also a form of carbon.
It may seem strange to know that the living things on earth are made of carbon. Carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen combine to form new compounds. And out of it came living things on earth. Carbon forms the most biological compound. Our body contains 4% carbon. Scientists consider carbon to be the basis of life on Earth.
The edges of the pencils we see around us, the air added to cold drinks, lime, choke, marble, etc. are forms of carbon. Carbon is also present in the subsoil, in the seabed and in the air. Carbon can easily take on a new form when mixed with other substances. Carbonate when mixed with calcium and hydrocarbon when mixed with hydrogen. Hydrocarbons i.e. gas, petrol and diesel are also used to make plastics, perfumes, dyes, cosmetics, waxes and medicines.
Destroyed on earth. The fossils of animals and plants are buried in the ground and eventually turn into carbon rocks. The carbonaceous substances found on Earth today are made up of the remains of animals buried in the earth's crust millions of years ago. This carbon cycle is going on on Earth.
