Delhi's Red Fort is an ancient and magnificent complex of historical and national significance. The Prime Minister delivers a national discourse on Independence Day from this 19th century fort built of red stone.
Is. The construction of the Red Fort began when the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi in the 19th century. It took 10 years to build. Shah Jahan named the fort Mubarak.
There is a 6.5 km long wall around the Red Fort. This wall is 15 meters to 5 meters high. The fort was magnificent as it was the residence of the emperor. The roof of the palace was silver, adorned with beautiful marble artistic carvings. The Kohinoor hero-encrusted throne was in this fort. The fort was divided into two parts, Diwan Aam and Diwan Khas. Diwan means the court for the general public and Diwan means the residence of the royal family.
The fort has a Moti Masjid, Rani's residence, Hayat Baksh, a garden, Rang Mahal and a music hall. After Shah Jahan, many emperors added improvements to this fort. The splendor of the Red Fort did not diminish even though some of their valuables were moved during the British rule.
