Inventor of the Fresnel lens: Augustine Jean Fresnel

- Scientists of the world

The shimmering lights of the lighthouse at The Riyakanthe are visible from afar. The headlights of cars and vehicles also emit rays of light. This miracle is due to the fresnel lens in it. A simple lens refracts light and collects it in one place. Concave lenses scatter light around it, but fresnel lenses are different. It has a pattern of steep mounds. That is, different sets of rays of light behave independently. Fresnel lenses work in the same way as a set of several smaller lenses. The ray passes through it and spreads depending on its bump pattern. The lens was invented by a scientist named Augustine Frensnell. He made many discoveries about the movement of light rays.

Augustine Jean Fresnel was born in the province of Broglie, France. Born on May 10, his father was an architect. Fresnel was a weak student in childhood. After completing his primary studies, he entered the Ecole Polytechnic where he made good progress and passed with good marks and joined the Academy of Sciences for higher studies. Fresnel lived in Paris all his life. He served as a government engineer. He lost his job during Napoleon's reign. He then began research on light. In 1914, he wrote research on the refraction of light. Received an award from the Academy of Sciences of Paris. He first invented a new type of lens and named it Fresnel Lens.

Mirrors are used to illuminate the lighthouse. After Fresnel invented the lens, it became easier to spread light far and wide without a mirror. In 1918, he was appointed as the Commissioner of Lighthouse. The Rumford Medal was awarded in 1918.

The rays of light spread like waves. That was the main principle of Frensnell. By arranging mirrors and glass at different angles, he performed many experiments on the reflection and refraction of light, in addition to the Fresnel lens, he also discovered the polarized lens. The principles of refraction that he discovered are called Fresnel diffraction. Today his principles are used in photography and shooting of films.

Fresnel was very devout and religious. He did light research all his life. He received very little publicity during his lifetime. Is. He passed away on July 19 at the age of just 9 years.
