Oh! Missing name means resorting to surname!

- Seminar of Parijat- Dr. Kumarapala Desai

No matter what Shakespeare said, 'What is in a name?' But the name contains a lot. If there was no name, how could man-man be identified? That is why there was a constant attempt to identify the man by name and these names changed over time. How could humans know each other when they were living a nomadic life on this earth? His tongue got the language, but how to get to know each other or the person who is far away?

It is said that when a child was born in the dawn of mankind, it was identified by its body shape. And then it happened that the names that came from its physical features or its deformities changed with the age of man. Such as a woman with fish-like eyes as 'Meenakshi', a woman with an elephant-like gait as 'Gajgamini', a woman with long arms like knees as 'Ajanbahu' There was also a tendency to address the defect with that word, meaning that the person with a foot defect was identified with derogatory words such as lame.

In this way, just as a person's beauty is expressed by being identified with adjectives and a delicate woman is called 'tanvi', in the same way a word like 'bahukantha' i.e. an insulting adjective like 'stump' is addressed by name. Even in the matter of naming, the peculiarity of discriminating human nature has not gone unnoticed! There was a time when it was named after a person's deed, that is, if a person did a great deed, he was known as the lion of the forest.

Primitive and then human beings lived in groups and then man started living with parents and blood relatives. At this time the roots of the family system were destroyed, but in time it happened that scams arose to determine its address from the physical characteristics of man. As the one with bald head was called 'Khalwat', but there were many such people with bald head, so the method of naming from body or gestures proved to be inadequate. Moreover, as the language of mankind on earth began to expand, they began to be named not only by the physical appearance of the individual, but also by its nature. That is to say, the names began to fall in view of the nature of the person and the merits and demerits of the person.

As a result, the fundraising of names increased and for some time the ancestors were not bothered. Everyone got a name to identify or address, but their satisfaction did not last long and soon the question arose as the human population grew. Many people with the same name, temperament or qualities became one and then it seemed that the name is not enough to identify a person. Someone has to find a new way.

This led to a new method of identification and the identification of a person by the name of father or mother. This means that the name Janaki is elsewhere, but to say 'Janakputri Janaki' means that the name is different. Dasharatha's son Ramchandra or Kuntiputra's Arjun can be identified immediately. Even then, the son is not identified by the father's name alone. Somewhere the mother's name was also used. The reason for this was that there was a custom of polygamy and hence it became customary to give the identity of Sumitra's Lakshmana instead of King Dasharathaputra Lakshmana.

It was also customary to write the father's name first and then the son's name. Today such a custom prevails in many regions of South India. Such a practice is also prevalent in Rajasthan in North India. One of the reasons for this is that the society knows the father better than the boy.

Due to the old age of the father, more people in the society are aware of it. In this regard, some people also argued that first the father was born then his name and then the sequence of names for the son was born. This practice may seem a bit strange to us today, but the fact is that society creates such practices when it needs them and then abandons them when they become obsolete and useless. If a new practice is found then it removes the old practice so there is a history behind the social practices and hence our poet Vallabh is proud to call himself 'Premanandasut Vallabh', but over time these same names have become many and So now one Vallabh is different from another Vallabh. So how to prove their isolation? And from this arose the need for a surname.

Surnames began to be used to identify a person. Initially, when the surname was introduced, the surname was based on the specificity of the head of the family. The whole joint family was known by the same surname, but the joint family began to become nuclear families and then the nuclear family changed its new surname.

The funny thing is that a person can be named as he wishes. There is no obligation to have a certain type of name, but there is a different attitude towards surnames and society does not give everyone the freedom to choose their own surname. Sometimes the surname was used when the person's name was not even identified, including the father. In which Premanandasut Vallabh is not a surname, but over time the poet Premanand or Bhatt Premanandsut Vallabh had to be identified.

In this way the society gradually adopted different surnames and in our country the custom of keeping such surnames and identifying the family in that way has been going on for years. Yes, there was a time when a person was identified by the name of a clan, clan or father. Such as Suryavanshi king Trishanku, Asura named Nikumbha born in the dynasty of Hiranyakashipu, Raja Janak of Ikshvaku dynasty, Suryavanshi king Shiladitya- were identified with this dynasty. When looking at the ancient character of that time, the first line of identification of each person born in that dynasty was given according to its lineage. Thus the dynasty was glorified in the ancient texts of India, but it also changed with the passage of time and the history of some of the characteristic changes that took place in it and the gradually increasing surnames is also interesting.

Manzrukho

King Philip II of Macedonia, north of Greece, and father of Alexander the Great, conquered most of the kingdoms of Greece after his accession to the throne.

At one point, Alexander's father, King Philip, sat in court and heard the case. Both men presented their respective parties. It so happened that when the first one of them spoke, King Philip fell asleep. As a result, they could not fully hear the first person and when he woke up, the second person was effectively presenting his side. King Philip accepted her argument and gave her justice. When he sentenced the first man, the man said, "I do not agree with your decision and I urge you to reconsider your decision."

These words caused silence in the judiciary. It was the first time anyone had spoken out against the justice of the glorious King Philip. The townspeople present in the courtroom felt that King Philip would now punish him severely for opposing his judgment. Instead, he asked the man, 'Why are you asking me to reconsider?'

The man said, 'Sir, I am just asking the king to reconsider the decision of the sleeping king. When I was presenting my party, you had a good night's sleep and so you could not hear me. Now that you are awake, please listen to me again. '

King Philip realized his mistake. The truth was in his favor, and he acquitted and sentenced the other man, while King Philip praised the courage of the first man.

The revelation of the moment

Life means discovery or achievement? In fact, don't worry about discovery and don't get bogged down in achievement, because life begins with discovery and even a person goes out for that discovery on his own. It finds the seed of potential within itself and becomes active in trying to germinate it by recognizing that seed.

Every ordinary human being also has an unusual element. The extraordinary resides within the ordinary, but if a human being does not go out to search for the abnormality or the extraordinary within himself, his future development does not reach its culmination and it is summed up in a comma.

When the seed inside has to be discovered and germinated by the person alone, it has to be groomed and fertilized, it has to think about how I can make something different, something special and then its dedicated discovery towards that special. Begins. Whether it is natural power or to be achieved through diligence, both these paths can be taken on the path of development. In fact, even those who have natural power have to make efforts and even the power gained through hard work requires a little naturalness. Neither Gandhiji nor Lincoln was a good orator, but he developed his rhetoric in such a way that it enchanted everyone. Thus in life there is a search to be made and that is the search within us and to germinate the seed that has fallen into it.
