- Even in the lockdown I did a lot of brainstorming and came to the conclusion that life is too short. I can't wait for the right time. So I decided to make a short film
The years old wish of actress Shefali Shah has now come true. She is not a talented actress, but she always wants to be more than anything. This is when her webseries 'Delhi Crime' came out on OTT and she is getting immense praise. The web series has gained widespread popularity and is set to become its second season, but Shefali's desire to direct has been fulfilled and she is happy. Whether it's a short-film instead of a movie or a web show. The short film is titled 'Happy Birthday Mommyji', which was recently released on the Large Short Films section on the YouTube channel. Let's talk to this handful of actresses and get information about her new sattva projects.
"I have been wanting to direct for a long time," says Shefali, "but I have not yet taken responsibility for the full-fledged feature film, as I am not fully prepared or sure about it." Like everyone else, I did a lot of brainstorming in the lockdown and came to the conclusion that life is too short. I can't wait for the right time. So I thought I could make a short film. I got the story, but when I was making my first film as a director, I didn't want to risk another actor, and not at the expense of what we call 'selfies.'
"In the end, I got the job I wanted," adds Shefali. I signed all my films and serials and also played various roles, but I didn’t do that before. When I became a mother, I consciously decided to take a break and fulfill my responsibility as a mother full time. When my two sons (Aryaman and Maurya) grew up, I started working part-time because I didn't get the kind of role I wanted to play. '
Referring to the 'Delhi Crime' web series, Shefali says, "This web series changed everything for me and that became the turning point of my career. The work I do today is because of this show. I used to work as a co-star, but now they see me in one of the lead roles. And in a role that suits all ages. '
Regarding the fact that the industry has now crossed the age limit, Shefali says, 'Of course. In the '70s, the lives of actresses would have gone awry. No one even asked their price. Today, stories are being written that touch different levels of life for men and women. 'Gulabo Sitabo' (2020), 'Pinku' (2013), 'Tumhari Sulu' (2013), 'Lipstick Under My Burqa' (2013) and 'Badhai Ho' (2013) which have interesting female characters. There are no 'heroes' and heroines anywhere today. Stories are being written about the characters and each of the characters is unique and wonderful. I take the lead and parallel key roles myself. People want to write rolls for me. 'Human' series which Vipul (Shah) is directing together with Moses Singh. I play a role in it, like I’ve never played before. 'Darling' (co-produced by Alia Bhatt and Gauri Khan) is a dark comedy, the first one I have explored.
'Some men make movies that have more sensitivity. 'Juice' (starring Shah in this short film) directed by Niraj Ghaywan. That's how 'Tumhari Sulu' and 'Delhi Crime' come in, "says Shefali.
To be honest, Anakhi is a romantic film. Please tell everyone that I am a hardcore romantic and I want to make romantic movies, 'said Shefali.
‘My acting career was not pre-planned. In Mumbai, I started acting in inter-collegiate play. After this I did Gujarati plays, when I got Rs.150 per show. This was followed by TV serials. Not only did I think differently, but I kept doing it because I wanted to learn other things. That's why I joined the arts school a few years ago, 'said Shefali.
Regarding directing a feature film, Shefali said, "I want to do it now, I don't have time. I don't want to lose the ride I'm on right now. However, I definitely want to direct a feature film. '
