- A life free from rage and hatred is like the serenity and inspiration found after a morning bath!
- Eye oyster, distance pearl-Acharya Shri Vatsalyadeep Suriji
- Raag and Dwesh are both natural. Where there is life, there must be both. It is natural to have love for one's work or to be angry with one's family.
Both rage and hatred are inextricably linked with life. All the introspective personalities of the world say to be above it. He who has the slightest desire for self-sufficiency does not walk without being free from rage, hatred; Because both are important barriers to self-sufficiency. Even if we keep self-welfare away for a moment, it does harm even in the living state. Putraraga of Dhritarashtra creates prejudice against the Kauravas and keeps them away from the Pandavas even though both truth and justice are present. Duryodhana's hatred towards the Pandavas refuses to give him a state or even a village!
Excessive rage and hatred become a hindrance even for a natural, healthy, excellent life. Saint poet Narasimha Mehta of Junagadh was chanting and knowing that his wife had died, he could sing at the same moment without any irony of mind: This spontaneity, serenity is not possible without the inner turmoil. When Goshalak died after inflicting severe harm on Shri Mahaviraswamy, Raja Shreenik asks the Lord what will happen to him now. Lord Mahavira says 'Goshalak will go to heaven' without keeping any sting or hatred in mind for the one who has not been left in Kandava a while ago! A life free from rage and hatred is like the serenity and inspiration found after a morning bath.
Both rage and hatred are also natural. Where there is life, there must be both. It is natural to have love for one's work or to be angry with one's family. When life comes to a standstill, it is natural for it to arouse sting, hatred. Sometimes it also happens that in life due to rage and hatred, passion is manifested! The passion manifested in the Queen of Jhansi comes from her patriotism, the revolt of 19 comes from her hatred towards the British and her rage towards the country. This is a well-known fact. A similar assessment can come down to personal life. There is another side to everything.
The whole picture is different when raga and dwesh are seen as the driving force for advancement. But just as rage and hatred are natural in every life, its noble, inspiring form is not seen everywhere and such a life is rare! Only the one from which life ascends can be welcomed, as this life is very precious!
All the self-conscious personalities of the world unanimously value life. Life is also fleeting. It is unimaginable when it will be destroyed. And in that case, don't waste this best life in the company of small or useless obstacles. If we keep away big things like meditation, sadhana, samadhi and prabhumaya avastha, then it is not like ruining life due to kshudra raga or kshudra dwesha.
If we repeat the above, then there is no such thing as striking a blindfold like Gandhari on the eye of understanding! When this life becomes free from raga-dwesh, its joy is unique! It is not like raising a bar of rage and hatred. Better is love and compassion for all and forgiveness and equality for all. A loving and egalitarian person attains glory, peace and well-being.
Jainism addresses the auspicious path for both life and soul by saying to get rid of raga and dvesha as they are bound by karma. In the Gita, Lord Krishna's teaching is towards raga-dveshamukta neutrality. I like to mention this because those mahajans have achieved life-welfare by going to that sect. He fought hard for self-reliance and he did not give up his inner determination. That persistence is up to the point of disintegration.
Prabhupada is up to the abode. After raga and dvesha, self-devotion and faith rise. Raag and Dwesh are Nathara vices. Neither will love or devotion to God be revealed. What good is a web site if it simply "blends in" with everything else out there? Shouldn't we be the ones who keep away from God?
Someone asked Lord Mahavira.
'Lord, what gift should I put at your feet?'
Laughing sweetly like a blossoming lotus, the Lord said: 'Don't give me the vices that have fallen in your life?'
Going to the temple of the Lord is like putting on vices like raga-dvesh.
Performance
Even if we count the days of Navkarwali, if we also know why its beads are 108? The count of 108 beads of Jainism is special: 12 marks of Arihant, 5 marks of Siddha, 5 marks of Acharya, 5 marks of Upadhyaya, 5 marks of Sadhu - the marks of Panch Parmeshthi will be 104!
Now when we count the garland of God's name, should we start trying to incarnate His virtues in life?
