The growing popularity of the OTT platform


The number of OTT (over the top) viewers in the country is steadily increasing. The number of OTT viewers in Mumbai is 3 lakh and in Bangalore it is 3 lakh. According to the OTT Audience Report 2021, there are a total of 3 million monthly OTT viewers across the country, of which three metros have the highest share of 8%. For the first time in India, video streaming viewers have been evaluated. Which shows how many people have seen Wadio on OTT at least once in the last one month.

Watching plays and series online on OTT is the most popular trend. There are more than 50 OTTs in this segment in India. OTT's revenue doubled to Rs 10,400 crore in 2020 from Rs 4,500 crore in 2015. There are an estimated 3.08 million OTT viewers who pay for Video on Demand Subscription (SVOD). Viewers also subscribe to paid videos in the non-paid segment for their friends and family members. Overall, the size of such subscriptions is around 2.5 crore. They make up about 31 per cent of the country's total OTT audience.

If we look at the important data in this sector, Indian OTT subscribers pay on an average of 4.5 brands. In such a scenario, the total number of viewers who pays goes up to 4.5 crore. In 2016, more than one billion tickets were sold in theaters in India, but that does not mean that one billion people have seen the film. Audiences who go to the cinema buy an average of 3 to 4 tickets a year, which means they go to see movies 3 to 4 times.

The report divides the OTT sector into four segments. Paid subscribers (11.5 per cent), non-paying subscribers (12.5 per cent), 4.5 per cent of customers who come with ads see content and only 4.5 per cent viewers on YouTube and social media. .

All four segments have more male and urban audiences who watch more SVOD content. In contrast, less than one million have been seen in rural India. Maharashtra has the highest number of SVOD viewers followed by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana followed by Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. According to the report, the population in the age group of 8 to 20 years is ahead in terms of payment.
