In recent years, the equations in the field of wheat production in the country have been rapidly changing. Years ago, demand was higher than domestic wheat production, and in the meantime, reliance on overseas wheat increased. However, after the rapid growth of wheat production in the country, the dependence on imports was removed and wheat exports started. Meanwhile, during the recent lockdown, the wheat market saw a significant increase in demand for home consumption while hotels, restaurants, public ceremonies v. Demand from the side had slowed. However, now that the lockdown has ended and the reopening process has begun, the situation has changed. Meanwhile, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has recently released an estimate of global wheat production. The global availability of wheat is expected to increase from 1,050 to 1,081 lakh tonnes in the year 2021-22, according to a recent USDA estimate. At the beginning of the 2021-7 wheat year, it is estimated that the total global stock of wheat will be 20 to 21 lakh tonnes. Early stock estimates in Canada have shown significant growth. Meanwhile, the total global production of wheat is projected to be 205 to 206 lakh tonnes in 2021-2. Given that the total global wheat production in the previous year of 2030-21 was 3 to 4 lakh tonnes, there are indications that the global production of wheat will increase in 2021-2. Amid rising production, a new record is now being set in global wheat production. However, along with production, there have been signs of growth in wheat consumption. The total global consumption of wheat, which was 205 to 206 lakh tonnes in 2050-21, is expected to increase to 3 to 4 lakh tonnes in 2021-2. Total global wheat exports are also projected to increase to 12-13 lakh tonnes. Meanwhile, there have been signs of increased wheat exports from India.
According to sources in the country's wheat exporters, lower-than-expected global wheat prices in the US, Russia and Canada have pushed up global prices, leading to better conditions for wheat exports from India. Experts are showing that the country's wheat exports are likely to increase to 5 to 6 million tonnes. So far, about 1.5 million tonnes of wheat has already been exported. Wheat exports from the country, which stood at 30-31 lakh tonnes last year, are likely to increase to 5-6 lakh tonnes this year. Some sections are also showing the possibility of such exports increasing to 3 million tonnes. According to sources in the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), wheat exports from the country reached 11 lakh tonnes in the first quarter of the financial year 2021-2, valued at between Rs 4,121 and Rs 215 crore. However, such exports during this period last year, however, were only Rs 3 crore. Thus, there has been a significant increase in wheat exports from the country this year. The US Department of Agriculture has also estimated that wheat exports from India will increase to 3 lakh tonnes. Earlier, a record export of wheat from the country was around 6 to 7 million tonnes in the year 2016-17. Some sections of the market are also showing the possibility of breaking this export record this year. Compared to April and May, wheat exports have picked up in June-July. Demand for wheat has risen on the back of rising corn prices in the world market, which has also led to higher wheat prices in the world market. Wheat prices in the US agricultural market had recently risen to close to Rs 15,000 per tonne. Wheat exports from India increased by about Rs 500 crore in the April-July period. Wheat exports from India have increased, especially to Indonesia, West Asian countries and Bangladesh. In addition, exports to the Middle East have improved. Indian wheat has also been exported to Nepal, Sri Lanka, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
