The power of our food: calories

This is how we get energy from the food we eat. This energy is measured in terms of calories. Calories are not just energy from food but every energy can be measured in calories. The amount of energy used to increase the temperature of one gram of water by 1 degree Celsius is called one calorie. You may have seen on the food packets how many calories we get from eating that food. Scientists have found out how many calories are found in different components of food. According to that, 1 gram of carbohydrate has 3 calories, 1 gram of protein also gives 3 calories and 1 gram of fat gives 3 calories. Doctors recommend that we eat according to how much energy we use each day to stay healthy.
