Information on hydrocarbons and biodiesel

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Production is rebuilding the development infrastructure. In which high quality valued (refined) petroleum products are being provided to the consumers at an economical rate.

India's annual food oil and condensate production increased from 2.4 million tonnes in 2006 to 110.2 million tonnes in 2007, while natural gas was produced at 2.8 million cubic meters per standard cubic meter (MMSCMd). Demand for this specialty has grown significantly as a result of recent corporate scandals.

The Petroleum Conservation Research Association and the organization under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas are building the infrastructure to meet the needs of the economic sector, such as transport, industries, agriculture and household.

The Government of India is building infrastructure in the country for the development of oil and gas. Of this, natural gas production could increase by about 20 million standard cubic meters in 2007 and 2008 and double in 2011-12.

The Indian government is considering another way to import natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) through transnational pipelines and through international pipeline networks from Iran, Turkmenistan and Myanmar.

Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP): An environmentally friendly source of energy derived from ethanol sugarcan molasses to increase planter sugarcan production so that the farmer's return also increases. Ethanol is 100% environmentally friendly when combined with petrol and produces less pollutants.

Neptha Export: Both Oil and Natural Gas (IOC) and Indian Oil Corporation (ONGC) export naphtha. ONGC produces naphtha from natural gas and supplies the supply stock to the fertilizer plant.

Coal gasification: We have abundant reserve fossil energy sources. Such as coal and lignite and it depends on the mining technique. But it is a 'serious problem' because it has very low heat value and high content ash content. At the same time creates transportation problems for disposal and residue and has a very large effect of Co2 (carbon dioxide) in the air.

Biomass: Biomass is a very important source for liquid fuel. Biomass is converted to alcohol by fermentation process. But this process is a no-greenhouse process.

Biodiesel: We have 60 Mn ha (millian hectares) of waste land. Which can be very suitable for Jatropha tree plantation. In which the multipurpose tree can be important for Jatropha. Jatropha requires very little water to grow. The life span of Jatropha plant is about 60 years. And it starts to bear fruit two years after planting. And it gives 3 tons of oilseed per hectare and 2 tons of biodiesel can be obtained from it.

R&D: Research and developing is essential for developing modified Jatropha variety. Because most of it is not oil. That kind of technology needs to be adopted. For this it is necessary to plant high yielding variety plants.
