Today, Maharaj! Seeing the rise on the water
The moon, joy in the heart,
Snehaghan, Kusumavan Vimal Parimal Gahan
Nij gagan mahi utkarsh pame;
Father! All the annoyance of tomorrow!
Naval Ras Dhawal Tav in front of the eye
Father! All the annoyance of tomorrow!
Damini glowing over the water
Yamini Vyomsar Mahi Sarti;
Kamini Kokila Kelly Kujan Kare
The glorious tide of the sea;
Father! Creation, good earth!
Liquid Tarani Sami Saral Tarati,
Father! Creation, good earth!
- Poet 'Kant'
Kant is a rare occurrence in Gujarati poetry. The poem 'Sagar aur Shashi' given here is one of his best works. Suresh Joshi has enjoyed this poem very much. Poet Hasmukh Pathak also wrote about this poem in 'Sanskriti' magazine edited by Umashankar Joshi. Prasad Brahmbhatt has also written scholarly about this poem in 'History of Modern Gujarati Literature'. Apart from this, many critics have tasted this poem. So there is no point in adding to it here.
But today is the birth date of the poet Mani Shankar Ratnashankar Bhatt 'Kant'. Today, it is important that the taste of his work reaches the Gujarati poets. Born on November 20, 19 in Chavand, Amreli district, this poet has reserved his place in the world of Gujarati poetry forever by giving only one collection of poems named 'Purvalap'. He died on the 19th while on a trip to Kashmir, returning from a train coming from Rawalpindi to Lahore. It is also a pity that his collection was published on the day of his death! He also translated 'Gitanjali' by Rabindranath. He also wrote two plays, 'Guru Gobind Singh' and 'Roman Swarajya'. In addition, 'History of Education' is the fruit of Kant's deep study. But his original identity and talent is only as a poet!
It is said that a small incident is responsible for this poem. The poet Kant was a bureaucrat in the time of Raja Bhavsinhji of Bhavnagar. Once Maharaja Gopnath of Bhavnagar went with Kant. While the carpets were being laid on the beach at night, the crescent moon from the sky, the roaring beach and the cool air also aroused the poetic feeling in the heart of the maharaja. He suggested to Kant, "Poet, do some poetry after seeing this." If a new poem is composed today, my evening will also improve. ' At that time, on the eve of the redness of the Aathmana sky, in the twilight of the fluttering orange color, pink colored patterns were printed and 'Sagar and Shashi' was formed.
However, no authentic information is available as to how true this is. But the fact is that no poet of Gujarati language has seen the rising of the moon over water by the poet Kant! The redness and beauty of this rise is the way he has expressed it in poetry.
His knack over verses, elegance of language and rhetorical presentation are his hallmarks. Among them, Khandakavya is Kant's only! Some poets have praised Kant's genius of Khandakavya, Balvantrai Thakor's sonnet genius and Nhanalal's knack on the rasa in two lines. 'Khandakavya is the sonnet of Kant, B.K.T.A.
Kant-Kalapi-Nhanalal are the three leading chapters of Gujarati language at one time. This Sahitya-Triveni has given dignity and height to Gujarati language. Kant was Kalapi's great mentor. Correspondence between them is also a treasure of Gujarati literature. Once Kant was giving a lecture in the first session of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. At the same time, addressing Nanalal who was entering the room, Kant greeted him with the same line, 'Ugyo Prafulla Amivarshan Chandraraj!' Going forward, Nanalal literally made this greeting come true! In Sundaram's words, "Kant's poetry is like the arrival of spring of art in Gujarati poetry, then Nanalal's poetry following Kant is like a festival of spring."
Very few people will know that the poet Kant also wrote ghazals. Let's logout with that.

I see you, Chanda! Say! Does he see that?
And like this eye - say, what is it?
And to see the reflection of that eye in Tav Netra,
What time do I lose - say, he loses?
Girlfriend! I see you - we see it with Joel-
I can't sleep! Say, is the companion sleeping?
Saluni Sundari Chanda! Axis in clean rays-
I am washing my heart! Say, does he wash it?
