Why not consume yogurt at night?
(Why should yogurt not be consumed at night?)
Yogurt offers a plethora of health benefits. Only when consumed during the day. According to Ayurveda, consumption of curd at night increases the amount of bile and kapha in the body due to its sweet and sour properties. Also causes trouble. Kapha dosha is the elements of earth and water. According to Ayurveda, this bio-energy is particularly associated with stability, harmony and energy-storage. On the other hand pitta dosha represents heat-energy in the body. A study also says that wrong consumption of curd causes disorders in the body due to imbalance of several doshas. Kapha and pitta naturally increase in the body at night. Consumption of curd can increase Vata dosha or dosha related to elements like space and air like flatulence, dizziness instead of reducing these two doshas in the body. Simply put, the body's digestion and immune system weakens at night. Body temperature rises at night (high kapha and pitta). Foods like curd which are already warm in nature. They are advised to avoid. Because their consumption increases the body temperature further and affects the body negatively in many ways.
Things to keep in mind
Some studies say that people with weak immune system or prone to cough/cold are at higher risk of side effects due to kapha and pitta imbalance. However, people with strong immune system do not experience any such symptoms and can consume curd in very small quantity at night.
Sour, extra sour or sour and sweet flavored yogurt causes more symptoms than sweet flavored yogurt. Taking curd at night with ghee, honey, amla, black pepper, fenugreek powder and green mung soup helps reduce its negative effects.
