'This is history to be made, history...' Saying this, the Bollywood boy aka Bobo reappears in front of you. You look at him for a moment and say: Today you have come without any disguise, so history is said to have been made.
'Nannanna...' says Bobo, 'No! See, the entire Bollywood is stunned by the way 'Drishyam-To' has become a surprise hit. Especially the young actresses of Bollywood are completely shocked. They feel that the nest... we work so hard in the gym that we pass out, we have hired a whole team to cover social media and even our films are getting beaten up... and on the other side the aged tabu is giving hit after hit. . Among the few Hindi films that have been successful so far this year, two of them speak in Tabu's name - 'Bhulbhulaiya-2' and Aavadi aa 'Drishyam-2'. The flood that has come from the South has not made any difference to my daughter Tabu, speak up!'
Saying this, Bobo adds, 'So today I have decided that today I will create history. Today I will be silent! Today Tabu will talk about his best roles. Tabu Ki Kahani, Unhin Ki Zubani. Over to Tabu...'
Matches (1996): I was shooting for a Tamil film in Chennai when I got a call from Shabanaanti (Azmi). He said that Gulzar is trying to contact you. He wants to cast you in one of his films. The phone fell out of my hand. Happened to me, huh?! Gulzarsaheb wants to cast me in a film? But what work? What did he see in me? At that time I was very new and my song 'Ruk Ruk Ruk...' started appearing on TV. I went to Mumbai and met him. He told me the story of 'Machis', but Haram if I understood anything! All that mattered to me was that my dream of working with Gulzar Sahib was coming true.
Existence (2000): I got this film at a time when I was desperately waiting for a good role. Films with extramarital affairs have come before, but this was new to me. Marriage, relationships, female sexuality, loyalty... all these aspects were touched upon by the film. 'Astittva' could have failed miserably, but thank God, people loved the film.
Chandni Baar (2001): Producer R. Mohan the producer called me that there is a script for you. The director is new, but you have heard the story from him once. Then decide whether to do the film or not. (Director) Madhur Bhandarkar came to meet me. He pasted my photo on the script. Madhur narrated the first half. The story was so dark that at the interval point I said just stop here. Keep putting the script. I will read the second half in my own way. I took a long time to read the second half. I had no idea about this Mumbai bar culture. The story of the film was very disturbing, but I knew deep down that I had to do this film. Earlier, the girls who appeared in bars, clubs etc. were either for glamor or as a means of pleasure for the villains. Never before 'Chandni Baar' did such a character come as the lead heroine.
The Namesake (2006): Mira Nair's film opened up a new world for me. I was shooting a film abroad for the first time and back in New York I was all alone. (Director) Meera shares a lot with you. There is a different kind of comfort in working with a female director. Like, during the shooting of my delivery scene, Meera only told me that what kind of cramps (tension, pull) do you get in the pedus during menstruation, you have to act with that feeling in mind. This kind of direction can only be given by a woman director! I learned a lot from working with Irrfan Khan in 'The Namesake'. Another reason to love this film is that every year I still get royalties from this film and that too in dollars!
Haider (2014): Based on Shakespeare's play 'Hamlet', this film was not only challenging but exciting for me. I didn't care if my character was likable or not. Indian cinema has never seen such an explosive mother-son relationship. (Filmmaker) Vishal Bharadwaj once said in an interview that I cannot make films without Tabu. What a big statement! What more could an actor need? The moment I heard this from Vishal's mouth, I felt that the path I have chosen in life, what I have done or not done in life... It was all worth it!
Dashyam-1 (2015): This character of Inspector General grabbed my attention only when I watched the original Malayalam film. Such powerful roles are not written for heroines. This character carries a lot of weight in the film's story, professional and personal life. I had said at the same time that if this film is made in Hindi, then I want to play the role of this IG, because I have not done such a role for a long time. Wearing a police uniform, running errands... I was really kicked about it!
Listening to Tabupurana, Bobo seems to be mesmerized. He says, 'Apart from this, some of his films are Tabu's own favourites, including 'Bwi Number One' and 'Saajan Chale Sasural'. Yes, yes, you heard it right. Tabu says that he should do serious-serious roles every time. Sometimes you have to make people laugh. What an actress, what an actress!'
...and like every time, instead of shouting 'Jai Cinemadevi.. Jai Cinemadevi...', the Bollywood boy aka Bobo takes the exit chanting 'Jai Tabu... Jai Tabu...'.
