On the day of Uttarayana, Bhishma Pitamah committed suicide

From the point of view of Jyo Tisha Shastra, Lord Suryanarayan moves in twelve zodiac signs. Lord Suryanarayan resides in a zodiac for one month. They have periods of six months each. Uttarayana and Dikshanayana. When Lord Suryanarayana is in Dakshinayana, the day is short. The day begins to grow when Lord Suryanarayana enters Uttarayana.

From a scriptural point of view, when Lord Suryanaran enters Capricorn, there is great glory in charity. That is why another name of Uttarayana is Makar Sankranti. Donations made at the time of Sankranti bear eternal fruit. Also, when the Sun is in Capricorn, one should bathe in Triveni Sangam in Tirtharaj Prayag. Its special fruit is obtained.

Reciting 'Adityahridaya Stotra' on the day of Uttarayana to get success in work. Adityahridaya Stotra is a hymn to Lord Suryanarayana. This stotra was performed by Lord Shri Ramji. By the light of that hymn, Lord Ramji won victory over Ravana.

According to Mahabharata and Bhagwatji, on the day of Uttarayana Bhishma Pitamah committed suicide. Uttarayana is the festival of providing upward motion. From a spiritual point of view, Uttarayana means the Uttara Sahaja state of life. There are eight limbs of yoga. Uttarayana scholars also believe that when a human being achieves siddha, the yogi reaches the state of trance, brings the soul to Brahmandra and renounces the body through the path of yoga. Bhishma Pitamah also had Bhakti and Yoga in him. On the auspicious day of Uttarayana, he joined the three gods of Mati, Gati and Rati. His life was such that Lord Dwarikadhish was present at the time of death. Bhishma Stuti is famous in the ninth chapter of the first Skandha of Bhagwatji. Bhishma lived a life pleasing to his grandfather. Whose childhood improves, his youth improves. If the state of youth is improved, the state of old age will be improved, that is, the state of Uttara will be good, that is Uttarayana.

Secular festivals are also celebrated during Uttarayana. It also has many spiritual meanings. Kite flying is done on Uttarayana day. Its spiritual meaning is that if the string of a life-like kite falls into the hands of a good guru, that is the meaning of life. Just like a kite flies freely in the sky, the string of a life-like kite has to be handed over to Sadguru to move it in the sky, and once handed over to Sadguru, the kite is never cut.

Cutting a kite also has spiritual meanings. It is the nature of a jealous person to bring someone down when they have gone up. That is why the uncompromising poet said, 'The fear was the same for everyone that we would not reach somewhere on the top, someone arranged a cage, someone laid a trap on the road.' The spiritual meaning is that one should not live a life full of jealousy, anger and hatred. That's why we have the importance of sesame seeds there. Here one is reminded of a Marathi line, 'Irgul gya, round round bola.' This means, eat Sesame Cheeky and speak Salt Salt. And the spiritual meaning is, 'Do not utter such words as to hurt anyone's heart.' Kabirji says, 'Bani aisi boli man ka apa khol, Auran ko shital karen aaphun shital hoi.'

So, this festival of Uttarayana is to make the life paranoid to God. Uttarayana is the festival of worshiping Lord Vishnu, Mahadevji and Suryanarayana. So let us at the time of Uttarayana hand over the string of a life-like kite in the hands of Sadhguru to the hands of God and be freed from jealousy-anger-hatred and wander in the sky of the spirit where there is less chance of falling and being cut down. That is why Narsingh Mehta says that, whoever is moving in the sky should speak brightly. .. Astu.
