Social media platform Facebook has suspended 10 Hong Kong police's anti-violence WhatsApp hotlines. It was used to capture the intelligence of pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong. The hotline was used to capture the intelligence of the protesters' activities by viewing photos and videos shared by their members.
According to a report, Facebook was activated 72 hours after the launch of the hotline and suspended the hotlines for the use of the messenger app for private messaging only. According to a Facebook spokeswoman, the terms of use of the application states that no use of the application's services will be allowed unless the right of non-personal use of the application is granted by the company, as its personal use is not permitted. WhatsApp is primarily designed for private messaging and they are taking action to stop bulk messaging.
However, police have said they decided to postpone the hotline only because it received mixed reactions. The hotline was receiving a large amount of information at the same time and everyone had different views on the information so the police decided to suspend these hotlines.
