DK Joshi is a retired person who works as a consultant for Hydro Power for Nepal. In his bank account, Rs 5 lakh was withdrawn in a jolt. On July 20, he received a message to update Paytm's KYC Detail. He ignored this message for 3 days. But on 23rd, he received a call in which the caller called himself a probationary officer of Paytm and asked him to update the Paytm. On the phone, he asked for the date of birth, found out what the model of the phone was and then asked to download Quick Support to the phone. After this download he made KYC. After doing so Joshi's control of the phone reached the hackers. His phone was hacked and all OTPs reached the caller with remote access. On the same day, more than 5 lakhs were withdrawn from DK Joshi's account.

The money was transferred from Joshi's account to a different bank account. Joshi said that when he became aware of the whole incident, he immediately went to ICICI Bank and blocked the account. At 8.40 am on July 24, a message came from SBI Bank that was linked to UPID and first 34000 and then 26000 amount went to the account with no OTP. Thereafter Rs 20,000, 19,999 and Rs 10,000 were withdrawn from the Bank of Baroda. Joshi lodged a complaint with Commissioner Faridabad in the case when the case reached the Cyber Cell for investigation. On July 26, Rs.100,000 lakh was transferred from his account.
