There are two ways in which the current flows through the electrons in a metal wire. One electron moves forward from one end of the wire to the other, and the other electron stays in one spot for 5 times a second. The current flowing through a direct current or DC and electron trajectory is called 'alternating current', ie AC.
When a light bulb or a device is connected between the AC or DC current, the current flowing through it produces heat and light energy.
In the old times, both AC and DC supplied electricity. Electricity can be transmitted far beyond AC currents, and it is easy to fluctuate with the use of transformers, so electricity is sent through AC currents. Some of the equipment has no switch from AC or DC current. Electric motors run both AC and DC. However, the composition of the two is different.
DC power is used in the lightning current. Power cell and battery provide DC power. Adapters are used to convert DC currents to AC currents in our home.
