Earthquake on the lunar surface

Earthquakes happen on the lunar surface just like earthquakes on earth. However they are of very low, low intensity. Earthquakes on the moon are called moonquakes by astronomers.

According to a NASA study, earthquakes occur when the sun's intense heat on the moon destroys the surface area. During the day, the temperature on the moon rises to 40 degrees Fahrenheit [40 C], and when it cools at night, it shakes like an earthquake. Earthquakes also occur when a celestial body or asteroid hits the moon. Earthquakes on the moon last 10 minutes. Apollo's seismic network recorded six earthquakes on the moon between the 19th and 19th. Some of the quakes had a magnitude of 7.5.
