Awareness about environment and sustainable development is on the rise in the world, but Benorita Das, who lives in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, has received such rites in her throat, so she has been sensitive to such things since childhood without any awareness of such thoughts or words. Such as not wasting food, using earthenware or glassware instead of plastic, etc. This is because he had a young doctor who taught him from an early age to run with little things and to live modestly. Her 90-year-old grandfather teaches her to use natural resources sparingly. They do not waste even the smallest piece of newspaper or clothing. Growing up in such an environment, Benorita has been fond of sewing since she was in school. Her dream was to make a career in fashion designing.
After earning a bachelor's degree in fashion designing, he did a master's degree in sustainable fashion from Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab, then taught at a fashion college for a while, but felt that he should work with the fashion industry. Worked. During this time he saw how much the clothes in the form of garbage in the garment factory or boutique house harmed the environment! He realized that the fashion industry was the second most polluting industry in the world. In 2014, she returned to her hometown Bhubaneswar and in 2014, she started her own fashion brand called 'Ladyben'. As a child, he saw weavers come to his mother to sell cotton sari, so when Benorita Das started her own fashion brand, she went to places like Sonpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Sambalpur and met the weavers and explained to them why you leave the handloom. . Benorita wants Ikat to reach out to a wider community like Chanderi cloth.
Benorita decided that her brand would be eco-friendly. So the first thing she did was start her products with the clothes she had. Thus began his journey with zero investment. Used extra clothing for the first two months. Used Favicol with sewing, but felt that Favicol would not work if the products had to be made attractive. Having to embroider on it, he started collecting slices of cloth grown from different tailors and boutiques in the city. If she went to the tailor and asked for such a cut, they would give it to him, because it would be a question of disposing of it for them. In addition to tailors, he started taking such clothes from three or four factories in the city. Thus five to six bags a week began to meet the cut. It sorts all the slices according to the type of fabric i.e. cotton, satin, synthetic. It then sorts by color. All these are made into clothes according to its design and then products are made from it.
Through such a process Benorita today manufactures about twenty-five types of products such as dresses, jewelery, handbags, curtains, backsheets and sells them at fairs and exhibitions held in different cities. She also participated in the India Kids Fashion Week held at Taj Bengal Kolkata. Ladyben also has stores in Bhubaneswar and Shahpur Jat area in Delhi.
Initially no tailor was willing to collect and sew all these clippings. The new clothes seemed easy to them. So when Benorita started, she had only one young lady working. Today her team has sixteen members. She invites students to her store rather than fashion courses and is also doing internships. The business, which started with zero investment, now has an annual turnover of Rs one lakh. He also wants to start a store abroad. He believes that it will be a waste for the one who throws the clothes, but for me it is a treasure.
