There is such a wonderful lake on the border of Bharat Ratna Kashmir. Pangong means a huge elliptical lake. Spread over an area of about 500 km, the lake covers not only India but also Tibet and China. The lake, which is 4 km wide and 12 km long, freezes in winter and becomes a huge layer of ice. The Line of Actual Control of the India-China border passes through the middle of this lake.
There is very little vegetation around this lake which is situated at an altitude of 150 feet in the Himalayan range. The lake has no fish or other aquatic populations. Migratory birds can be seen in this lake in summer. The lake can be reached from Leh in Ladakh.
