- 'I chose to be a Bollywood actress, and without even thinking about it, I worked hard for it. I didn’t know I would have to struggle differently because of my appearance.
Actress Lynn Lishram has won the hearts of millions with her onscreen charm and charisma in films like 'Om Shanti Om', 'Mary Kom' and 'Rangoon'. The beauty of Manipur represents North-East India on the global stage. Yet his homeland does not welcome him. However, like other Indians, it has been welcomed in real life. What is the point of accepting Northeast India? - You have to go a little deeper to know this.
Lynn Lishram says, 'The only person from Northeast India who is Danny Denzongya, with whom we are not associated with Zaza as he can speak Hindi fluently while most of us can't. Bollywood has discovered me. I entered our films through the global platform. This is Ariban Shyam Sharma's masterpiece film 'Imagi Ningthem' which has won the Golden Montgolfir Award and also at the Festival des ૩ Continents Nantes in the year 19 '.
Lishram has been working in the industry for almost a decade and also starred in 'Mary Kom' in 2014, in which Priyanka Chopra-Jonash was also in the title role.
Casting at the time of the film’s release invited a sharp negative reaction, Lynn says, ‘I admire Priyanka for her hard work. He has given hours to look like Mary Kom, but I always believe that casting is an important step in a film, but I am convinced that if it had a girl from Manipur or a girl from Northeast India, she would have fully represented us. '
Despite his advanced status in showbiz, Lishram maintained that he had often experienced ill-treatment of certain races in the industry.
Explaining the matter in more detail, he adds, "Someone is ready to give us a stereotype role. Be it a spa girl, a prostitute or a waiter. Such a role not only has a character-like work that can be assigned to an artist, but such a role is given to us because of how we look and become a typecast. This is the lack of knowledge about our culture, which distracts us. When a person who achieves Ishaan plays such a character, he is selected as a North-Eastern person as shown in Mary Kom. On the other hand, why are people from the North-East not chosen because like ordinary Indians, we can walk all walks of life. '
He further added that Bollywood needs to be more inclusive and facilitate towards Northeast Indians, not just for the sake of adornment or geographical representation, but also to position them as Indians.
"The latest example of inclusion is The Family Man-2," says Lynn. His show featured casts from Tamil Nadu and spoke Tamil. They represented the local culture and ethnic community. All of them were warmly accepted and praised. So, if South Indian culture is accepted, then why not Northeast culture? '
The number of cases of Kovid-12 epidemic among the people of Northeast India, who are facing bad treatment for people of different castes, has increased significantly. Referring to the horrific incident that took place during this period, Lynn says, "As I was leaving my parents at the airport and returning home, two men were running behind me and they were shouting at me as 'coronavirus' and they seemed very aggressive physically. . The incident was very scary.
'I felt helpless and angry because at that time many people in Northeast India were suffering from corona, they were refusing groceries, some girls were walking down the street, as paying guests and students were being evicted from hostels. In our country, we are treated like this and treated like this, it is a weak mentality, 'he said.
Despite the relentless ups and downs, Lynn says, 'I chose to be a Bollywood actress, and without even thinking about it, I worked hard for it. I didn’t know I would have to struggle differently because of my appearance. Also forget that there is no godfather in the industry. I have not seen or heard of any Manipur artist working in Bollywood. The only mantra for this is to work hard and hope that one day the situation will improve, 'Lee explained.
