- With the announcement of theaters opening from October 22
Multiplexes and theaters have suffered the most since the Corona epidemic began. It is the turn of the employees associated with it to suffer unemployment. But now with the approval to start theaters in Maharashtra from October 7, there is enthusiasm to release big-budget Bollywood films.
Along with director Rohit Shetty, several producers and directors have met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and got orders to reopen theaters. As soon as the news came out, there was excitement among the frustrated distributors since March last year.
Sunil Shetty's Akshay Kumar starrer Suryavansham, which has been awaiting release since 2020, has now been announced by Shetty on Diwali. With Shetty's announcement, Bollywood celebrities are all set to release their big budget films. Ranveer Singh's sports film થશે will be released in Christmas while Shahid Kapoor's film Jersey will hit theaters a week later. Producer Aditya Chopra's four films are awaiting release. Bunty Aur Babli-2 will be released on November 19, while Akshay Kumar's Prithviraj will be released on January 21 and Ranveer's Jayeshbhai Jordar on February 3.
Ahan Shetty's debut film will hit the screens on December 3 and Akshay Kumar's Bachchan Pandey will be released on March 4 next year. Aamir Khan has decided to release his Lal Singh Chadha on Valentine's Day next year.
Producer Anand Pandit, whose face shone on the big screen even in the lockdown, is now excited for the Diwali bumper release. He said that all the producers have shown wisdom by deciding to release their films on different dates. By doing so, all the films will get business and there will be no competition between each other. He also lauded the government's decision to start theaters. Pandit is also in the process of releasing a film starring Ajay Devgn, Siddharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh soon.
Theater owners, on the other hand, are awaiting the announcement of new rules of the Kovid Protocol from the government. But they are also happy that the government has allowed the multiplex to run. In its letter, the Multiplex Association of India informed the government that the exhibition sector has raised Rs. 2,500 crore.
The theater owners estimate that they may be allowed to start the theater with 90 per cent capacity as well as admission to spectators taking both doses of the vaccine. Some theaters have decided to demand repeal of GST on tickets before the government.
In order to attract people back to the theater, theater owners have decided not to increase ticket prices even if they have a 50 per cent capacity.
