- 'Earlier no one thought that I could play a negative role. When I was offered the role of a villain in the show 'Hush Hush', I could not believe that anyone could entrust me with such a job.'
Actress Juhi Chawla has always been known as the bubbly girl in Bollywood. This actress, who made a splash in the 90s, became very slow in the acting field after that. But in the last few times, it is clearly visible that it has become active again. Just a few months ago, her 'Sharmaji Namkeen' was released. And some time ago her 'Hush Hush' series was streamed. In this series made in the backdrop of Gurugram, the actress has played a gray role. She is really Juhi. Actually no one can imagine that a bubbly girl can play this kind of role so her gray role has left people in awe.
Juhi was very excited to play the gray character of powerful lobbyist 'Ishi' in 'Hush Hush'. He says that if I am offered such a role because of my bubbly image, I will be in seventh heaven. When the director Tanuja Chandra offered me a gray role in this serial, I accepted it without a second thought. Explaining the reason for this, Juhi says that my desire to work with Tanuja Chandra was coming to naught. I knew that they were cultivated under the hands of Mahesh Bhatt.
However, this is not the first time that Juhi has played a gray role. He also played a negative role in 'Gulab Gaining' in 2014. She says that I have been associated with the film industry for so many decades. However, earlier no one had thought that I could play a negative role. But when I was offered the role of the villain in this film, I could not believe that someone was giving me such a job. I had never done such a role before, so I didn't even know how to act. But after going on the set, I did what director Soumik Sen told me to do. And this character of mine was also appreciated a lot. He thinks to himself that I acted very well in it. He further says that at that time I thought that seeing me in a negative role, other filmmakers would queue up outside my house to give me the same job. But nothing like that happened. And now after 'Hush Hush', only time will tell whether I will get such roles.
It may be mentioned here that the seven-part series stars Ayesha Jhulka, Soha Ali Khan, Shahana Goswami, Kritika Kamra and Karisma Tanna. And it is directed by a powerful woman like Tanuja Chandra. Juhi says that I did the crime thriller 'Arjun Pandit' in the year 1999. I haven't done this kind of movie since then. This was also one of the reasons behind accepting this series.
At one stage in Bollywood, actresses used to get roles like Shobha's natiya. But Juhi Raji is happy seeing that many women-led films are being made now. He says that women are taking center stage in films today, what is wrong with their stories being presented. The rest is a well-known fact that our films have been male-dominated. This change with time is welcome.
