
Due to the upheavals taking place in the subsurface of the earth, huge pits and mounds were formed on the surface of the earth. When two tectonic plates come closer and collide, the pressure causes the ground to wrinkle and the land in between rises to form a mountain. Due to this, most of the mountains were formed in the form of continuous mountain ranges. In general, hills higher than 300 meters are geographically called Parvat or Mountain. Different types of mountains are formed due to different geographical conditions. As the air is cold and thin on high mountains, snow remains frozen.
- Due to the lava flowed from the ground at some place, the land rises up and forms a volcanic mountain. A volcano has a cavity in the middle from which lava flows and is ejected from the top.
- The world's largest mountain range, the Himalayas, is 2413 km long. It has many peaks. The world's highest peak Everest is in the Himalayas.
- Other notable mountains in the world are the Alps and the Caucasus.

- There are mountain ranges. Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano. Maunakiya, the world's highest mountain is 9082 meters high and is mostly submerged in the ocean.
