The incidence of sim swap fraud is increasing nowadays. Swap SIM cards and cheat millions of people by hoarding people. Recently, Rs 18 lakh was stolen from a merchant's bank account. In order to do this fraud, the hacker changed the mobile number registered in the bank and raised the money. The hacker transferred money to different accounts to avoid being caught.
What is Sim Swap
Sim swap means SIM exchange or SIM cloning. A new SIM is registered with the phone number. When this happens, the SIM card will stop working. No signal found in phone. Hackers receive OTP from your phone on another SIM and transfer the money using it.
That's how it started
It starts when the call arrives and the person in front says that he is an officer of a company like Airtel, Vodafone. They talk about dropping a call on your phone and fixing it or increasing the speed of the net. They want Simone's 20 digit unique number during the conversation. If this number is given to him then the process of SIM swap is over.
After the SIM is swapped the network in your phone goes off. Because the second SIM of your number becomes active. The scammer then fraudulently obtains the backing ID and password and receives OTP.
Bank details with scammer
When you open the fax version of the banking website and fill in the details, the details also fall into the hands of the scammer. So when people call Aadhaar card number or other details, they should not give it.
Do not call off
The scammer calls and harasses during the SIM swap. At such times, people turn off the phone. Never do this. It takes 4 hours for the SIM card to become active. If your phone is turned off, the scammer will be easier.
