8 out of 10 children in India suffer from oral health problem, know cause

One survey found that the prevalence of oral health problems among Indian children is high. According to the survey, 8 out of 10 children have this problem. Another fact has also been found that there is a great deal of difference between the reality of the oral health of children and the perception of parents. A national study for Colgate Palmolive Ltd revealed that at least 8 out of 10 children in India have mouth problems. It is important to be serious about these issues.

Of the children included in the survey, most of the children had tooth decay, white spots on teeth, swelling in the throat, bad breath, bleeding from the genitals. The survey found that 2 out of every 3 children have cavity in their teeth or are at increased risk of developing it. According to the study, 9 out of 10 adults also have a major problem with oral health. Oral health problems are found in children across the country. The proportion of 89 per cent in Eastern India, 88 per cent in Western India, 85 per cent in North India and 64 per cent in South India.

According to the survey findings, the actual condition of children's dental health and their parents' perceptions are very different. This is because people lack information. At least 8 out of 10 parents included in the survey believed that children's teeth were healthy but investigations revealed that 80 percent of those children had oral problems. The proportion is 92 per cent in Calcutta, 88 per cent in Mumbai and 80 per cent in Hyderabad.

The study found that most children in India do not follow the rules for oral health. Such as brushing daily, tooth-cleaning from time to time. More than 70 percent of the children surveyed do not brush twice a day, and more than 60 percent of them do not go to the dentist for the past one year. 8 out of 10 children who eat sweet foods daily suffer from oral health problems. 44% of the children surveyed need treatment such as tooth improvement, root canal, tooth extraction.
