There are 40 million people waiting for a green card in the US, 2.3 million Indians are also in the queue

More than 2,27,000 Indians in India are in the queue to receive a family-sponsored green card or permanent residence permit in the United States.

Although about 40 million people are currently on the waiting list for a family-sponsored green card, while Congress has allowed only 2,26,000 such cards to be issued each year, the largest number on the waiting list is 1.5 million from Mexico, a neighboring country south of the United States.

India is the second largest country with 2,27,000 people in the queue, followed by China with the third.

Most of the people on the waiting list to receive this card are siblings of American citizens. Under current law, US citizens can sponsor their family members and blood relatives for a green card or permanent residence.

However, Donald Trump is against such a provision and calls it a gradual move. He wants it to end.

But the opposition Democratic Party is vigorously protesting the termination of this family-sponsored green card system. Apart from the 40 million applicants for family-sponsored green cards, 8,27,000 people are waiting for permanent permanent residence permission.

What is a green card?

People with green cards get the status of permanent resident in the United States. With this card, anyone can legally live in the United States, as well as work there. This card is the first to get US citizenship.

Green Cards are sponsored by the United States each year to 2,26,000 families. This card is given to people. The families of those whose citizens have received US citizenship.

According to the Green Card rules, a US citizen can nominate a relative of his or her close relatives living in other countries.
