On the day of Makar Sankranti, Lord Bhaskar (Surya) goes to his home to meet his son Shanidev. However, this day is known as Capricorn Sankranti, because Shanadeva is the lord of Capricorn. In the Mahabharata period, Bhishma's father had chosen the day of Makar Sankranti to renounce his body.

In all these Vedas the Capricorn Sankranti has been given the status of Mahaprabha. The festival is known as khichdi, as it is practiced in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on the day of Makar Sankriti, to eat it and donate it to a dish made of khichdi.

This festival has many names

The Capricorn movement is celebrated in different ways in different states. In Haryana and Punjab, it is regarded as a blacksmith. In Uttar Pradesh and Bihar it is called khichdi. In Uttar Pradesh it is also known as the Feast of Dan. This day in Assam is called Bigu festival. The festival of Pongal is called in South India. Sesame, rice and lentils are made on this day. The festival lasts for four days.

The importance of bathing

It is said that bathing in the Ganges on the day of Capricorn transition removes all suffering. That is why charity, tapas, chanting are of special importance on this day. It is believed that donations on this day bear special fruit.


The importance of sesame

Our sage Munio used sesame seeds at the festival of Capricorn Sankranti, making it a part of tradition. According to Ayurveda, it is favorable for the cold season. Sesame is of special importance in terms of human health, so the presence of sesame has been kept unchanged in all our religious and magical activities, from worship to worship or even to marriage.

About two months after sowing, her plants begin to flower and are ready to harvest in three months. Its plants are three to four feet tall. Its seeds are small and flattened. Three types of sesame are better known as black, apple and red. The black sesame in it is nutritious and best. There are four juices in the sesame seeds from Ayurveda. Sesame, bitter, sweet and sour juice is found in the sesame seeds.
