Mahashivaratri festival is coming in a few days. Let us tell you today about Mahadev's pilgrimage which is not in Jyotirlinga 12 but is still very famous. This pilgrimage site is famous as Shivaji's background.
The name of this shrine is Jageshwar. Significantly, this pilgrimage site is also mentioned in the Puranas and the scriptures. The first Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva is located in Jageshwar. This place is also called the fifth dham in Uttarakhand. So let's know about the importance of this sanctuary.
Jageshwar Dham is located 36 km on the Pithoragarh road northeast of Almoda town on the Himalayan mountain range. This temple is believed to be the first place from which the worship of Shivling began. This is mentioned in the Puranas. It is believed that after worshiping Sur, Nar, Muni, Lord Shiva was awakened here, hence the name of this place has been known as Jageshwar.
According to the temple administration, this place is the 8th of the 12 Jyotirlingas. But there are different approaches to this. Some people think of Nageshwar of Gujarat, and some people consider Jyotirlinga to be an ardent Nagnath in Maharashtra. The people here also know Jageshwar Dham as Yogeshwar Jyotirlinga.
There is also a belief that Mahadev is still here today, including Mother Parvati as a tree. The forest surrounded by cedar trees is a picturesque pilgrimage site. Here Shiva Parvati sits as a couple. This cedar tree is years old. Shiva was the only deity who conquered death. So, people still believe that they are still living in this tree.
There are 250 small and large temples in Jageshwar. In this temple of Jageshwar Dham there is a cluster of 124 temples which is the oldest. This is worshiped 5 times here. The main temple here is of Mahamritunjay Mahadev. Apart from Mother Parvati, Bhairava, Hanumanji and other deities are present. The glory of this temple is also described in Skanda Purana and Ling Purana.
There is a belief that here every fulfillment of the devotee's devotion. People started to abuse it. Adi Shankara came here in the 8th century and started a system. The pleasures sought herein that do not include others are not fulfilled. Here the sacrificial rituals are completed only by sacrifice or ritual.
There is also a myth associated with Sriram. People believe that Love and Kush waged war with her father right here. It is said that Love and Kush were the first to establish these temples. There is a Yajna Kund here today.
There is also evidence that the Pandavas also resided. This place is so old that it is also mentioned by Ravana, Pandavas and Markade Rishis. This place is believed to be thousands of years old. However, according to archaeologists, the temple was built during the 7th to 14th centuries.
