A flurry of comedy films on the OTT stage

Demand for this specialty has grown significantly as a result of recent corporate scandals. Viewers are now demanding the release of comedy and light-themed films on the OTT platform on several social platforms to divert attention from the news of Corona affecting the heart and mind. This demand of the people is also reaching the OTT platform. And that's why the OTT platform, known for its crime, thriller, dark content and bold themes, has now turned to comedy, romantic comedy, family drama.

OTT has always been a hotbed of suspense, thriller and dark content on Indian content. It is believed that OTT viewers are mainly teenagers who are disgusted with Formula One movies and boring TV shows and want to see something different. But the family audience also turned to OTT as theaters closed due to the Corona epidemic in which they found something like entertainment in this depressing atmosphere. That is why the series on ordinary life like Panchayat and Gullak 2 was successful. Amazon Prime is bringing two comedy shows in a month, Zakir Khan Ka Chacha Vidhayak Hai, Hamare 2 and Bowman Irani, Arshad Warsi with an army of comedians.

Comedians Kapil Sharma, Sumukhi Suresh, Akash Gupta, Rahul Dua and Prashasti Singh's comedy show has got a special place in the list of Netflix's New Year shows. The platform also aims to bring a new season of popular comedy, drama and feel good series like Masaba Masaba, Mismatched, Little Things. Comedy shows by stand up comedians like Zakir Khan, Biswa, Amit Tandon, Veer Das are also included on both these platforms. Disney hotstars have also featured comedy shows like Family, OK Computer, Mukesh Jasoos.

Durgesh Singh, author of Superpit series Gullak 2, says that after Gullak 2, I am getting an offer to write a family show. Now other series are also becoming family viewable.

People are now choosing lighter and comic shows more. Crime and thriller families don’t like to sit together and watch in this time of stress and frustration. Viewers are demanding to make a film on stories like middle class family, small town, working couple. The specialty of OTT is that there is space for all kinds of shows. That is why new experiments are being done for comic space.
