- WHO estimates that two-thirds of the world's population is partially or completely dependent on these methods.
Commercial production of various herbs in the country is emerging as an attractive branch of Indian agriculture. These plants are sent to the pharma industry and cosmetics sector by collecting commonly used herbs from forests for supply in traditional health care. But the natural habitat of these medicinal plants has been greatly encroached upon. The supply of these herbs by conventional methods cannot meet the demand of domestic and export markets.
This particular type of farming is largely based on demand and the government itself is promoting it through campaigns like the National AYUSH Mission. Under the AYUSH mission, the aim is to promote Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy systems. These four therapies are called 'AYUSH' for short.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that about two-thirds of the world's population still relies on these traditional methods, with traditional medicine, as well as about 90 percent of the raw materials for modern medicine coming from these herbs. The annual turnover of herbal medicinal products in the domestic market is about Rs 5,000-7,000 crore and in the export market about Rs. It is estimated to be Rs 1,000 crore.
During the Kovid-12 epidemic, the demand for these drugs, which are said to help boost immunity, has increased rapidly. These days, there is a strong demand for the use of medicinal blends like Tulsi, Cinnamon, Dried Ginger and Black Pepper.
The Ministry of AYUSH has recently launched a nationwide campaign for the distribution of AYUSH-2 and proven product Kabasur Kudinir, which is helpful in the treatment of people suffering from mild to severe Kovid. The Haryana government has also started a 3-hour tele-conferencing service with the advice of Ayurvedic experts. Many voluntary organizations are also providing similar counseling services related to yoga and indigenous medical practices. Many homeopathic doctors are also claiming success in treating the symptoms of this deadly disease.
Recently there has been an increase in demand for some homeopathic medicines such as arsenic alb, influenza and camphor as anti-inflammatory drugs of covid. India is fortunate to have a wide variety of plants with medicinal properties and aromatic plants. Its 12 agro-climatic zones are home to 15,000 to 15,000 plants. About 5,000 of these plants have the ability to treat diseases and other properties. But the irony is that more than 50 herbs are currently traded.
In fact, only 12 plants are used. There is a demand for these medicinal plants but the low availability is partly due to the low consumption of these plants. Is responsible. With that in mind the government has started encouraging them to increase the supply of these herbs. For this, about 150 medicinal plants have been identified under AYUSH Mission.
India's herbal beauty products industry has been growing at a rate of about 15 per cent since 2014 and has also played a key role in increasing the production of medicinal properties in the country. These things need to be improved so that herbal farming can grow faster. The health care sector and other industries also depend on it.
