Ancient monastery of Himachal Pradesh: Ki Gomya

Some ancient architectures are also found at high altitudes in the hilly region of Hi Machal. Ki Gomya, a Buddhist monastery situated on the banks of the river Spiti in Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 318 m amidst natural beauty, is a huge 11th century architecture. Buddhist monk Atisha built this monastery for the religious practice of monks. It was damaged by Mughal invasions in the 16th century. Even today, like a magnificent fort on a peak in Himachal Pradesh, this monastery adds to the natural beauty.

Located in the Lohol-Spiti area, the monastery is a Buddhist pilgrimage site. Gomya means beautiful and glorious. The monastery, which teaches religion, art and science to Buddhist monks in the 11th century, has many beautiful sculptures, including a magnificent statue of Lord Buddha. The building is wonderful with narrow rooms, narrow corridors and narrow staircases. The monastery has three floors of low ghats. The discourse room and rooms at the bottom of the basement are spectacular. Even today, Buddhist teachings are imparted in this monastery and Buddhist monks become lamas by taking sannyas.
