The mind afflicted with meditation gives the pains of hell ... The mind absorbed in meditation gives the happiness of salvation ...
- Tribute to Amrit - Acharya Vijayarajaratnasuri
Every average human being like us has three special powers: Manashakti, Vachanshakti and Kayashakti. If we talk in the terminology of Jain Shastras, those who have the level of Sanjna Panchendriya have these three powers to a lesser extent. In addition to human beings like us, these noun five senses also include animals, birds, etc.
The most powerful of these three powers - the 'powerful' power, if any, is Manashakti. Let us understand this with a simple example. Suppose you have a shotgun in your hand and you strike the Sami man with his hand. Then the power of the bullet will be only one stone, not more. Now suppose you fire the same bullet at a Sami person from the 'Point Blank Range'. The bullet will then become extremely sharp and can penetrate a Sami person's body and even cause death. The bullet is the same, but the reason for the difference in the result is the overwhelming 'force' of the gun!
Simply, the overwhelming 'force' of this gun is the strength of the mind. Whether the activity is auspicious or inauspicious, but if there is an absence of mind in it, then the strength of that auspicious activity becomes very limited. On the contrary, if the attachment of the mind to the auspicious activity is very intense, then its strength also becomes very intense. To realize this we quote here a description of the Jain scriptures. It says that if ignorant (mindless) beings sin as much as possible at the level of the body, as a result they will be punished only up to the first hell, not more. When those who are conscious beings commit sins with intense concentration of the mind, they get the punishment of the seventh hell! What does this show? The power of the mind is unimaginable. The same thing has to be understood in the field of auspiciousness that without auspiciousness of the mind only auspicious activity at the level of the body gives limited success. While the intense contemplative auspicious activity of the mind gives unimaginable enormous success. When the reality is this, the goal of the devotee in the sense of self-welfare should be that the mind joins in the good and does not get drawn into the bad by mistake.
But ... patience! Mind games are very different. It is a ploy to subdue the great yogis who are willing to remain steadfast in good or stay away from bad according to our relief. That is why even a Mahayogi like Mr. Ananddhanji Maharaj has written for the mind that: -
Where to do The mind does not remain still,
Here is my mind ... Here is my mind ...
We all often go through the experience that the body is engaged in Dharma-Shubha and the mind wanders somewhere in worldly affairs. Do you know that funny parable that reflects our state?
The most prestigious Shrestha of the town came there in the morning to meet his peers Shrestha. Seth was then worshiping the Lord inside the Grihamandir. The daughter-in-law in the outer room welcomed the newcomer Shrestha and said in a loud voice: "Sit down, Sasaraji has gone to some place to collect the collection. Will be back in a little while. '' Newcomer Shrestha wondered if the collection was so early in the morning? The place mentioned by the daughter-in-law was a place where high class people do not go soon. On this side, Manoman was shocked to hear this strange thing of Seth's daughter-in-law who was performing pooja.
After the pooja, he came to the outer room in the pooja clothes, counting the revelations. The newcomer Shrestha looked at his daughter-in-law and asked in amazement: "Where did this collection come from?" This has come from the temple. "The daughter-in-law made a sharp sarcasm:" Worship Sasaraji or did I say her mind at the time of worship, was she wandering in the collection of the place or not? While preparing for the puja, I have heard the words from his mouth that after the puja, one has to go straight to the collection. I have a hundred percent assumption that his mind will be playing with the same thoughts even during worship. '' Sasaraji openly confessed that he was playing with the same thoughts ...
Yes, the strange characteristic of the mind is that if the body is engaged in auspiciousness, then it becomes arbitrary and wanders anywhere. It is difficult to keep it stable in good, it is difficult to prevent it from bad. In the midst of this reality, the author of 'Adhyatmakalpadrum' comes up with a detailed contemplation about the mind in its ninth right. In seventeen verses they have made many interesting representations about the mind. Even if it is difficult to control the mind, one must constantly strive to control it. Explaining the exact reason for this, the author states the third verse of the Adhikar as follows: -
Swargapvargau narak tathanta - rmuhurtamatren vasavasham yat;
Dadati janto: constant effort, vasham tadantakaran kurushya.
In this verse, he says that if the mind is controlled and immersed in Dharmadhyana-Shukladhyana, then in one last moment (in less than 2 minutes) it can create the role of determining heaven and salvation. On the contrary, if the same mind becomes uncontrollable and immersed in Aartadhyana-Rauddhyana, it can also create the role of fixing the seventh hell in an intimate moment! The highest peak of upliftment and the deepest valley of decline: Prasannachandra Rajarshi comes to mind if one wants to see the reflection in the life of a single seeker of this peculiar ability of the mind to make the journey of both only in the intimate moment.
This Rajarshi, which took place in the time of Lord Mahavirdev, was preceded by the Rajvi of Potanpur. Due to the contagion of the Lord, he became so aloof that he installed Dikshit on the throne of Balarajkumar and became Dikshit. He was relieved that trusted ministers had taken over the reins of government. After initiation, he became engrossed in the pursuit of self-sufficiency.
As a rigorous undertaking of the same sadhana, they once started kayotsarga sadhana outside Rajgruhinagar. In it, they stood on one foot and stretched out their arms, basking in the sun. If the body was thus instrumental, the mind was immersed in auspicious meditation. Suddenly, there was a disturbance in the calm water.
It so happened that Emperor Shreenik rode from the same road to listen to Lord Mahavirdev's Dharmadesh. Shreenik Manoman bowed to Mahavairagi. But one of his soldiers said in contempt to the other soldier: "His son Balaraja is in trouble now. Enemies have invaded his kingdom, ministers have exploded and are on the verge of imprisonment. '' These words fell on Prasanna Chandra Rajarshi's ears and his mind wandered in the opposite direction.
The body remained calm, but the mind suddenly reached the battlefield. Mind to save the son: In the battle of imagination, he went on to eliminate one enemy after another - Futel ministers. Only one enemy survived, and when the weapon was exhausted, he put his hand on the head to throw the iron helmet over it. Then I realized that I am a laborer. What a terrible nightmare I did in this mental battle. He repented and immersed himself in the stream of excellent Dharma-Shukladhyana.
When he was killing the enemy in a mental battle, the emperor asked Lord Mahavirdev, "Lord, what speed would Prasannachandramunivar go if he dies at this moment?" The Lord replied: "Go to the seventh hell." The whole assembly was shocked, including from this north, or the seventh hell for such instrumental labor? There was the sound of Devdundubhi. The series asked: "Bhante! Why did this Devdundubhi ring? ”The Lord said:“ Prasannachandrarajarshi has only attained enlightenment. ”Shreenik and Sabha were stunned.
Because only knowledge is available to those who go to Moksha at the end of that Bhavana. Mahavira Prabhu described Prasannachandra Munivar's Durdhyana and Shubh Dhyana from the area and said: But as soon as he became absorbed in Dharma-Shukla meditation, all his deeds were done away with? We will keep thinking about the ways to control that mind in the next article. Now remember this saying that "the distressed mind gives the pains of hell ... the good mind gives the happiness of salvation in good meditation."
