- Management-Dhawal Mehta
- We need to check every year what kind of management is going on in remand homes, child protection and women's protection homes there.
Re-mand homes, prisons, labor camps, detention centers, mental institutions, some women's and child protection centers, old age homes and most other ashrams are places where people who live or work often lose contact with the outside world and are banned. Live life under the web of rules.
The management of for-profit companies has not paid much attention to the management of such total institutions. These types of institutions have a closed door system to a lesser extent. You have to get permission to meet the person living in it. Life in our old age homes is very routine and there are some restrictions on the movement of people living there.
Binding bodies i.e. entanglement with rules. People living in our prisons, remand homes, old age homes, monasteries, mental hospitals, and to some extent in yogasrams live under the net of hundreds of rules like when to get up, when to take a bath, when to go to sleep, when to go outside. The people who run these Total Institutions have immense power over the people living in the closed institution. If a prisoner is not obedient, he is beaten. Our schools are also semi-closed institutions where work is done on a clockwise basis and teachers beat students.
The idea that the Western world should have precious 'privacy' or its own 'space' is not only in India but in the entire non-Western world. Few people in India know that every woman in the Western world aspires for 'A Room of My Own'. In the West, it is called 'quality time' when a parent or a parent communicates with their children without disturbing others.
Our boarding schools, and the schools where the bells ring, are also a smaller version of the Total Institution. Even in our hostels, when the bell rings, you can't go to eat and if you come late, you can't eat. This has been given the nickname of Discipline.
Total Institution and Power
The worst form of Total Institution is 'cult', an organization based on a narrow ideology. If you are trapped in a 'cult' and start living in an institution that has sprung up there, your brainwashing is certain, but in such 'cult' institutions you are constantly monitored.
People who work, live, or are forcibly kept in total institutions (such as prisons) lose contact with reality as they are cut off from the outside world to a lesser extent. Life in old age homes runs like a school bell and is bound by many rules. In prisons, sentries are constantly on the lookout for even minor offenses.
In short, not all institutions are the same. In which the rules of coexistence are relaxed if you have entered the marijuana but in all these institutions eating and drinking are totally standardized. In such institutions, just being an Ashram dweller is enough for your identity. You have to live a very routine life (eating a lot of bad food) as an ashram dweller.
Atrocities and exploitation
We need to check every year what kind of management is going on in remand homes, child protection and women's protection homes there. We often hear reports of horrific sexual exploitation of children and women in many child protection and women's protection centers.
Society has shown an unforgivable disregard for the functioning of the Total Institution. Total Institutions (like you work in a submarine) There are people who think both ways as they destroy or brighten your personality. E.g. Without discipline in the ashram you cannot become a brave independent fighter.
In Yogashram you have to follow the rules there so that you can learn yoga well. But in our old age homes, disabled people's congregations, sannyas ashrams, remand homes, women's protection centers, jails and detention centers, the authorities have immense power and cannot be run. Children are tortured so much in detention centers or remand homes that they try to escape from remand homes or detention centers in any way they can. The management of our nursing homes also needs to be re-examined as now nursing homes have become a big industry in India just like in the western world.
There have been hundreds of incidents in the Western world where parents are totally forgotten once they are placed in nursing homes. The French philosopher Foucault in his book 'Path Breaking' called 'Discipline and Punishment' (19) has included schools, prisons, military barracks and hospitals in the total institutions and instead of naming them as Total Institutions, he has called them Disciplinary Institutions. The famous communist thinker Louis Alluser called it the Ideological State of the Emirates.
Communist China and Communist Russia created total institutions under the name of Labor Camps and exaggerated human cruelty. Telling all schools, ashrams, universities, colleges, remand homes, etc. in India to keep your doors open. Leave the bells and time tables to work because creativity is spontaneous and has no rules. Eat at two in the morning and take a shower at ten at night but be creative. Everything else is secondary.
