The water of the rivers and reservoirs gets heated by the heat of the sun and evaporates to the sky and then the steam cools down and it rains in the form of rain.
There are generally three types of rainfall called convectional, relief (mountainous) and cyclonic. Convectional precipitation occurs mostly at the equator. And are torrential.
Most parts of the world have mountain or relief rain. The southwest monsoon in India is caused by the Himalayan mountains. The whole of Central Asia is called the rain shadow region of the Himalayas. Cyclone rains occur in cold regions of the world. It has more cyclones and hurricanes. Cyclones rain more on hot days and have no season.
Rainfall is measured in inches or centimeters. India had rain gauges in the 4th century BC. Rain gauge is a device used to measure rainfall. At present the standard instrument is made by placing a 20 cm high cylinder with a diameter of 20 cm and a 2 cm diameter beehive. The figure on the cylinder is 0.5 mm.
