Death wells at sea: Vortex

If you pour water into a narrow-mouthed trough, the water passing through it descends in a circular motion. If there is a small hole in the bottom of a large tank, water is pushed from all sides towards the hole to get out of it. The result is a circular vortex towards the hole.

Such vortices also occur when water seeps into a narrow space in a sea or lake. If a narrow deep creek sometimes appears in the path of a river flowing on flat land, the water entering it also creates a vortex and the river appears a pit and a circular circulating water between that place. The power of the water circulating in this vortex is enormous. In such vortices created in the sea, even small and big boats have to go round and round to the bottom. There are such vortices in many places in the oceans. If a ship is caught in a hurricane, it will sink and sink. Seafarers consider such vortices to be wells of death.
