Although Nimmi was first selected to replace Nutan in 'Saraswati Chandra', she could not allot time. After this, Asha Parekh's name was considered, but she did not want to work in a black and white film.

However, Nutan's father, who was later working with Govind Saraiya in the film division, came to know about this. After this, when Govind Saraiya talked about the film, he immediately signed the film showing readiness to work in it.

However, something similar happened to the lead actor as well as the lead actress. At first, when Dilip Kumar found out, he showed readiness for it, but did not reply soon, so Rajendra Kumar's name was also considered. After that, an actor named Asim, who played a negative role in a play, wanted to work in the film 'Saraswati Chandra'.
