- Last year Rs. Massive loss this year after hitting Rs 2,000 crore: In 2015, the revenue was more than Rs 200 crore.
After the second wave of the Corona epidemic, all the jobs, markets and industries have been throbbing with restrictions being eased by various state governments. The number of air passengers has increased, small and large tourist destinations as well as religious places have also increased. Restaurants / hotels are also emerging as before. Corona's previous status quo is going to be created at almost all levels except one industry where government regulations are relaxed. The industry in which no particular movement has been seen yet is the Bollywood film industry.
Due to the epidemic in the year 2020, the Bollywood film industry lost Rs. Even after hitting more than Rs 2,000 crore in the current year 2021, the industry is yet to fully thrive in most of the states due to 50 per cent occupancy rules in theaters. Due to the adversity that has arisen, by the end of the September quarter of this year, the industry has lost an additional Rs. There will be a loss of Rs 5,000 crore.
It is worth mentioning here that in 2016, Bollywood films grossed Rs. Earned over Rs 200 crore. Which in 2020 will be Rs. It was expected to reach Rs 2,000 crore. But due to the epidemic, the whole math has changed and now the industry is in a state of turmoil.
With the number of corona cases declining since June this year, vaccination operations have gained momentum. Due to which various states relaxed the rules related to the epidemic. However, with the increase in cases in Kerala and Maharashtra, these two states were taking control measures. At present, theaters in most of the states of the country are operating with 90% occupancy. Earlier, Rajasthan had announced 100 per cent occupancy. However, theaters have not yet opened in Maharashtra. As a result, films like Belbottom and Thalaivi have been beaten in theaters. As the audience does not come to the theater, there is an uncertainty about the upcoming films and no new films are announced.
The growing popularity of OTT platforms in the country after the epidemic has also adversely affected the film industry / theaters. The Bollywood film industry is being hit hard as people are now watching movies and web series on OTT platforms sitting at home.
In order to emerge from the current adversity, the industry is working hard to make theaters across the country fully, that is, 100 per cent occupancy. With theaters still closed in Maharashtra, the Bollywood industry has been hit hard. The industry earns more than 70% from Maharashtra. Thus, there is an immediate break on this income. However government rules / guidelines vary from time to time and circumstances. However, the Bollywood film industry believes that the restrictions on them will be eased in the near future. Due to which the industry is expected to thrive once again during the upcoming Diwali / Christmas festivities.
