If music is properly defined as music, dance and instrument, then music is created when these three arts are combined. Music is another term for a good song. We have said in the weapons there that the life of one who does not have literature-music-art in his life is like an animal. He is not a human being ..! True humanity is made up of literature, music and art. So the verse is literature, music, art without education, animal tail without poison. The importance of music is also in the tenth chapter of Gitaji. So today a question arises, if the importance of music in this tenth chapter, how is it? So Lord Krishna has said in his Vibhuti that in the 'Vedanam Samavedosya' Vedas I am Samaveda. Then why didn't God say Yajurveda? Why didn't you say Atharva Veda? And why did you say Samved ..!? So the Samaveda is the whole musical Veda. So Lord Krishna wants to say, 'The one who has music in his life, the one who has happiness in his life, that happiness is dear to me.' Music can also mean happiness.
Besides, music is also important in Devi Bhagwat. The importance of music is described in this way in the sixth wing of Goddess Bhagavata. 'Yathanayati Kailasam Ganga Chaiva Saraswati, and Nayati Kailasam, Swaragyan Visharad.' Just like if one bathes in Gangaji, one attains Shivlok. So if one bathes in the musical Ganga in the same way that one attains Shivlok by bathing in Gangaji, then one attains Shivlok. If we look at it from the point of view of ragas, there are many ragas in the name of gods and goddesses. Just like Mataji's name is 'Durga Raag'. Then we find there in the form of Mataji of the ten Mahavidyas 'Bhairavi.' So Mataji also has a name 'Bhairavi'. There is 'Bhairavi Raag' in the music after Mataji's name. So when there is a program of any music, it starts with the word Kalyan / Kalyan Raag and ends with Bhairavi Raag. So Bhairavi is the form of Mataji.
Moreover, 'Malkaunsh' is a very favorite raga of Mahadevji. It is said that 'Malkaunsh' and 'Shivaranjini' are the two ragas that are dear to Shivaji and if these two ragas are sung in a systematic way, even the stones melt. The ability to melt stones is in these two ragas. Then just as ten incarnations of Mataji took place, ten Mahavidyas appeared, so also the ten forms of Mahadevji are described in Shiva Mahapuran. So one of the ten forms of Mahadevji is 'Bhairav.' So Bhairav Raag was formed from this form 'Bhairav Raag.' So in this way many ragas have been created in the name of gods and goddesses.
Just like in music there is 'Bhopali' raga. So Bhopali Raag is very dear to Devraj Indra and if we think about Bhopali Raag, 'Bhoop-Roop-Gambhir-Shanta Rasa.' So the depiction of interest in such a way is also in these ragas. Thus in every raga there is a representation of interest. Bhopali is an example I gave. Thus many ragas in music are in the name of gods and goddesses. There is a description in 'Shri Yajnavalkyasmriti' that if a person wants salvation, what to do? So it is said that playing the veena brings salvation. That is playing the harp. Maybe if we can't play the veena, even listening to the veena liberates a human being. Now the two gods have the knowledge of song and music. Only two gods know the art of song-music. So who are those two gods? One is 'Devarshi Narad' and the other is 'Mahadevji'. Both of these gods have music. Shri Naradaji and Mahadevji are connoisseurs of music. When Mahadevji played Damru, the slogans appeared from Mahadevji's Damru Naad. So even if we say that Sanskrit originated from music, it works. So the knowledge of music in this way has been going on since time immemorial.
There are also two methods in storytelling. One is the Narad method and the other is the Vyas method. In Vyas system empty speech is done and in Narad system it is sung. So knowledge is also dear to God and if you make a meaning of the song, happiness is also dear to God; That which keeps smiling in life, remains happy in life, that which has music in life receives me. So if we know the importance of music in the scriptures and if we also love literature, music and art then surely we can reach the journey of the ultimate element. Astu ..
