- Globally, as tea production in Sri Lanka increased, so did production in Kenya, although total global production rose.

Recent trends in the tea market and industry in the country have seen a rapid reversal. With the Corona infestation declining and the reopening process accelerating instead of a lockdown, and hotels and restaurants reopening as usual, there has been a resurgence of bulk consumer demand in the tea market. Demand for this specialty has grown significantly as a result of recent corporate scandals. Meanwhile, on the one hand, the demand for tea is increasing in the country, on the other hand, there has been an increase in domestic tea production. India is at the top of the global black tea production chart, market sources said. On the one hand, tea production in India has increased, while in Kenya, tea production has lagged behind, according to world market experts. Market sources indicate that the availability of global tea can be maintained in the face of increasing tea production in India despite a significant decline in production in Kenya.

Meanwhile, in the current calendar year 2021 so far, the global production of black tea has increased to around 120 to 121 lakh kg. During the same period last year, the production of tea was recorded at around 150 to 181 lakh kg. According to statistics, global tea production has increased by about 4 to 5 per cent this year. However, market growth in India has been around 11-12 per cent in the same period as against global growth, market analysts said. Tea production in India has increased to about 3 to 4 lakh kg during this period as compared to around 3 to 4 lakh kg during the same period last year. Global total tea production has increased by about 103 to 105 lakh kg during this period. In India, the production growth during this period has been around 2 to 3 lakh kg.

Meanwhile, according to recent instructions from Kerala-Kochi in South India, active participation of blenders has been seen in tea auctions. In addition, loose-tea traders have also been active in buying tea. Dust tea prices have been seen going up in the auction. The positive impact on tea prices has also been seen as indications have been circulating that manufacturing plants will reduce the quantity of goods at the above auctions due to erratic movement of rains in the plantation areas. Upcountry buyers were also seen active in the auction. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, has seen an increase in tea production, according to overseas news. Tea production in Sri Lanka has so far this year increased to about 4 to 5 lakh kg as against around 12 to 15 lakh kg in the same period last year. Tea production has increased in India and Sri Lanka, while tea production in Kenya has lagged behind. Tea production in Kenya has fallen to about 3 lakh kg this year from around 5 to 6 lakh kg in the same period last year, according to world market experts. Tea production in Kenya has declined by 8 to 10 per cent. Kenya has seen a decline in production as much as Sri Lanka has seen an increase in production! Tea production in North India in India has increased from 3 to 4 lakh kg to 3 to 4 lakh kg. While in South India, the production of tea has increased from 1500 to 1901 lakh kg to around 15-150 lakh kg. Meanwhile, coffee production in the country has also received encouraging news recently. Robusta coffee production has increased. According to figures released by the US Department of Agriculture, coffee production and consumption in India is projected to increase in the 2021-22 season. According to these figures, coffee production in the country is likely to increase to around 2.50 lakh times (one in 50 kg) in the 2021-2 season which was recorded at 2.50 lakh times in 2030-21. Coffee growers have been adversely affected by Arabica coffee production following recent unseasonal rains. However, with the production of Robusta coffee remaining high, there are indications that overall coffee production is going up.
