Saltwater forest: Mangrove

The mangrove vegetation found on the coast of the tropical tropics is different from other vegetation and its forests are also special. This plant is also characterized by its distinctive salt water soils and unique coastal climate.

When the tide comes in, the shoreline is flooded. Many species of plants grow in these brackish waters, the roots of which are half in the water and half outside the soil. This plant, which grows by drinking salt water, is mostly tall like grass.

Strong coastal winds, alkaline climate and low oxygen content, this plant also withstands high tides. The mangrove forest of the Sundarbans of Bengal is world famous in India. The forest has 40 storeys of vegetation and its original mud spreads from the swamp to the ground. Many plants do not have stems at all. Only a bunch of roots needs a trunk. Mangrove plants have fewer leaves and more roots. A plant called Oxinia has thousands of roots in a three meter long plant. This plant is useful for the environment. Prevents coastal erosion.
