Start of Indian Standard Time

As the Earth rotates on its axis, dawn and dusk occur at different times in each country. When it is day in India, it is night in America which is on the other side of the earth. Every country keeps its own time. The Indian Standards Institute was established in India to determine measurements of weight, distance and time. After independence, India's standard time was set five hours 30 minutes later than Greenwich Mean Time. The clocks of Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai of the country are aligned together. All clocks were set to run on the basis of the atomic clock installed at the National Physics Laboratory in Delhi. It is called Indian Standard Time. Today this watch is linked to the Global Positioning Satellite.
