'V Shnu loves ornaments. Shivji loves Jaldhara. Salutation to the sun is beloved. A Brahmin loves food.'
'Curd is sweet, honey is sweet, grapes are sweet and so is nectar. It is sweet to whomsoever his mind wanders.'
Festivals cross the boundaries of both the above-mentioned subhasitas. Festivals are not for any particular person or class, but everyone likes them, everyone finds them sweet. That is why it has become universal and universal. Mahakavi Kalidasa Utsavapriya Khalu Manhan. It has been said rightly.
We love festivals because they give us a short-lived escape from everyday life. Burdened by the burdens of busy work and dry living, man feels a breath of relief on a festive day. An open sky meets the inertia of life. By flying freely in it for a while, a person feels his mind's troubles instantly subsided.
Occasional festivals like other people's moons are saved from the sin of disobedience caused by excessive familiarity. Just as a person who comes every now and then makes us feel welcome, the festivals that come sometimes become dear to us. If the gaiety in the festival is the love part of it, the vision of life in the festival is the credit part of it. There should be a combination of love and credit behind the celebration of any festival. There is nature in celebrating the festival as it is while there is excellence in celebrating the festival by understanding the spirit behind the festival. The word Utsav is derived from Ud + Su'. Meaning Utsav means that which 'brings birth above.' Janmana Jayate Shudra: Samskarain Dwija Uchyate.' Cultural celebration of cultural festivals gives duality to humans.
The spirit behind festivals is important. Celebration of festivals done with an empty heart becomes mechanical and creates inertia in human life. Festivals that are celebrated without understanding the traditional tradition mean nothing. As a result time, energy or wealth seems to be wasted on the occasion of the festival. If celebrated with a soulful heart and an eclectic intellect, it creates joy in life as well as dispels the despair of life and imparts new hope.
The silent speech of festivals gives us useful messages in life development. A message showing the correct direction. Thus the Utsavs are in need of an excellent guide or Bhomiya. The celebrations that we celebrate on the birth anniversary of great men show their greatness in front of us and give us a message to be great too.
"Lives of great men all remind us;
We can make our lives sublime.
Departing leave behind us;
Footprints on the sands of time!"
— Longfellow.
The lives of great men give us the assurance that we too can make our lives higher and nobler. Krishna Bhutva Krishna Yajet. Ramo Bhutva Ram Yajet. Festivals like Janmashtami, Ramnavami or Mahashivratri give us messages like 'Shivo Bhutva Shivam Yajet'.
Festivals like Sankranti, Holi or Diwali remain a guide for us. There is a beautiful suggestion of where life should be built, in which direction a person should move etc.
The festival of Sankranti conveys the message of cultivating true unity and creating a revolution.
Holi gives us a message to burn anger, hatred, false reasoning and differences. Holi will be transformed into Diwali by burning the sin in Holi, filling the bag of virtues, holding life to God.
Also, Diwali tells us to celebrate Diwali by having high ideals, being a hero, begging for culture, and taking such initiation.
Festivals like Raksha Bandhan or Bhaibij work to raise prices. I will have a brother who has the spirit of a sister, who cannot be found in the world.
A sister has such a feeling for her brother. While bidding farewell to the sister who is going to the father-in-law, the idolatrous value of the brother is seen falling. Sister! May the blessings of the Lord be upon you, may the blessings of the sage guide you, may you spread fragrance in the world, may your good fortune be unbroken.
Ganesh Chaturthi explains what a Gana-Pramukh should be like.
The festival brings new life to the life of workers. The dhamachkadi of Holi, the games of Janmashtami or the rasgarba of Navratri etc give us a glimpse of consciousness. Festivals remove the dullness created due to continuity of work, invite constant innovation, create joy in the heart of the worker and sustain his interest.
India's cultural history is written not in the pages of a book, but in its living festivals. If the vision behind those festivals is grasped, if the mantra behind it is meditated upon, then human gratitude towards the sages who are the creators of cultural history will become mind-blowing. Respect for the ancestors who spent a drop of blood to sustain that culture. May the faith on the scribes be strengthened.
Festivals are seekers of unity, nurturers of love, instigators of joy, protectors of religion and nurturers of spirit. Mere entertainment without brainstorming only spoils the festivity of the festival.
If we understand our festivals in the true sense, save them, preserve them, improve them, make them whole, only then the celebration of the festival has some meaning. Pray to Lord Yogeshwar that festival-darshan will be our life-darshan in true sense!
