How are caves formed in mountains?


You may have seen small and large caves in the rocks, mountains and river cliffs of the De Ria coast. A cave is an amazing geological formation on land. In prehistoric times man lived in caves.

Landslides in the mountains as well as long periods of wind erosion cause rock carvings to form caves. Mountainous areas have more caves. Some caves were used as temples and residences for monks in ancient times. Such caves form a beautiful piece of architecture. Apart from Ajanta Ellora, Elephanta, many caves are known in India.

Along the coast, water and wind erosion have also created many amazing caves. Long caves are also formed due to water flowing underground. Sarawak Chamber is well known.
