Religion is the body, religion is the soul

- Creeds of religion, religion is the body, religion is the soul. It is the ideal of mankind that we worship Atmadharma even while remaining in our sect.

Many Sufi saints lived in that small village along with their disciples and followers. Guru Nanak came to that village with a few disciples and started living in a cottage. People came to know that Guru Nanak was an enlightened and high caste saint, so they became eager to visit him. When a prominent Sufi came to know about it, he along with his disciple sent a cup full of overflowing milk to Guru Nanak.

The Sufi disciple stood outside Nanakji's cottage, telling his disciple, Our Guruji has sent this cup for Nanakji. The disciple seats the visiting Sufi disciple outside in the hall and takes the cup of milk inside the cottage and gives it to Guru Nanakji. All the disciples wonder why the Sufisant would have sent such a gift!

Inquisitive disciples ask Guruji, what is the secret of sending this cup full of overflowing milk? Guru Nanak tells his disciples that the Sufi saint has sent a message through this cup that there are so many religious leaders and their disciples in this village that there is no need for a Guru, disciples or a congregation of devotees in the village anymore. This cup overflowing with milk cannot contain even a single drop of milk, in the same way this village cannot contain gurus, disciples or devotees of other religious traditions. Guruji precisely inaugurated the sign and secret of the cup of milk.

Nanakji took some sugar particles and slowly added them to the milk and Guruji brought a light small flower with different colored petals from the back verandah and placed it on the milk, the flower floated on the milk.

Then give that cup of milk to his disciple and say, Give this cup of milk to the disciple of Sufisant and say, Nanak has sent this for your Guruji.

The disciple went and returned the cup to the Guru. The disciples are surprised to see the cup of milk returned. Some say that instead of accepting the gift sent by our Guru, he has insulted Guruji by sending it back.

Out of curiosity, the disciples ask Guruji, why did he send the cup back? Guruji takes the light little flower floating above from the cup and puts it aside and gives all the disciples a spoonful of milk to drink from the milk cup and asks, how does the milk taste? The disciples say that milk is sweet. Guru says, how did we send the milk? Disciples say that milk has been sent.

The disciples say to Guruji, what message does Nanakji want to convey through this?

Jnani Sufisant says that, Nanakji says, we will be mixed in this village like sugar is mixed with milk. The message of the light flower floating on the milk is that our consciousness is like a light flower. We do not carry the burden of knowledge on our shoulders nor do we want to push the burden of our knowledge on the village. The saint says this message represents Guru Nanakji's humility.

Religion is a flower. Various creeds and sects are the variegated petals of that flower. Although the colors of the flower petals are different, their fragrance is the same. Creeds of religion, religion is the body, religion is the soul. It is the ideal of mankind that we worship Atmadharma even while remaining in our sect. The different petals of the colorful flower indicate different sects and creeds. The next day in the morning, the disciple told Nanakji that outside Sufisant and his disciples have come to welcome you.
