Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat use the digital footprint of our lives in the trillion dollar industry every year and there is no way to get out of it. Users have now become a thing for tech giants. It is constantly being monitored. They also provide users' data to third parties. These third parties use that data to create great annotations for individual level targeting, attracting voters, and benefiting advertisers.
A new Netflix documentary uncovers how UK-based political consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica illegally accessed 8 million 70 million Facebook users' data and helped Donald Trump take power in the 2016 presidential election. The documentary also highlighted the dangers of users' lives, a social media platform designed to help people stay connected and influence free and fair elections around the world.
Their goal is to find people who have no idea who they should vote for. When they receive this information, it starts to show ads to users. Some of them are not even aware that their data is extracted and how it is used.
