Online food order expensive, stolen Rs 2.28 lakh

New Delhi, 29 July 2019, Monday

Online Fraud has become one more event. In which Rs 2 lakh of a software engineer from Indore has been stolen online. This happened when he was ordering food online. It is important that just a few days ago, HDFC Bank announced an advisory saying that nowadays fraudsters are online cheating with the remote control device app. With this app, they get access to the users' mobiles. In the beginning of 2019, the RBI also alerted the public against such fraud.

Fraud in Food Order

On ordering the food online, the engineer noticed that already Rs 280 was deducted due to some transactions on his bank account. He spoke to customer support at the payment gateway company to understand the deduction.

Two days after she filed a complaint with Customer Care, she received a call. The caller declared himself to be an executive of the payment gateway service and assured of a refund. During this call, the person informed the engineer that there was a problem with the server so he could download a remote device control app. Remote device control app asked for login after download and install.

By the time this process was done the engineer calling the engineer was suspected and he immediately tried to transfer his Acant's money to his wife's account but the transaction failed. He immediately called the bank and asked him to disable the account and asked to block the debit card. But the day after his bank account was active, it was realized that 15 transactions were made from his account and Rs 2.28 lakh was withdrawn.

This is how to avoid online fraud

1. The fraudster states that he is calling from the bank to become a fake executive. The way he talks is also professional. But if such caller gets suspicious, you can ask him banking related questions so he can cut the phone himself.

2. It will also ask some validation questions to prove that the fake executive has indeed made a call from the bank. Such as name, mobile number, date of birth etc.

3. A fake executive may even scare you if you do not follow the steps suggested, your account as well as the card will be blocked.

4. By making such calls, they try to download the remote device control app into the user's phone. For example his desk.

5. After installing the app, the fake caller wants a 9 digit app code in the phone. They use this code as a login. He gets access to the fake caller phone.

6. Always remember that if someone calls for banking services they will not ask you to download any other app.
